I’ve had Aladdin lamps since my Whole Earth Catalog ‘off the grid’ commune days more than 50 years ago. I still have a few of the simple spun aluminum lamps around to use on summer evenings outdoors and during our too-frequent power outages. I’d always used the plain parchment shades, which seemed less fussy and more practical to me than glass, and which used to be inexpensive.But now that the parchment shades are pushing $60, I decided it was time to give the simple white opal glass ‘student shade’ a try. I should have done it ages ago. In its plain white iteration, the opal glass shade is as minimalist and no-nonsense as the plain parchment shade; and it casts a warm, diffuse light that can fill a room.Definitely a five star purchase and well worth the price.
