Excellent Trimmer
Easy to put together. Lightweight. Cuts well. Very easy to replace nylon string. Very good battery life. I’ve had other brands, B&D is the best!

Good tool
Good tool, but the battery doesn’t last long as advertised.

This Black & Decker 40V Trimmer has changed.
I have had three others, starting with 20V. I admittedly overuse it, so it only lasts a couple of seasons or so. But it's my favorite brand by far. So I was very disappointed in this year's model. It no longer has speed setting. It appears to run on the second or third speed only and the battery doesn't last as long. The handle is thicker (not good for my small hands) and the handle won't stay in place. It still performs strongly, but I wonder if it will last two seasons on this higher speed.

Light weight
I love this weed eater! I am a senior and it was hard to start the gas weed eater. This is simple for me. The only thing is when putting the battery in you have to really slam it in to make sure it connects.

Works well
I like everything but the amount of time my 40 V battery lasts. I have a huge area to weed eat. I have a Craftsman, too that I have to use as it has two batteries and two chargers. I was told to get more power with the 40V and it starts out great but I live on a farm and have lots of grass and weeds continually. I would like to do a great job and spray it to kill grass and weeds in fencerows. I have to get my old reliable electric one to do that job. I have had a lot of the electric ones as they are powerful but I use 200 feet of electric cords to do the job and cannot go across road with no power. I will have to order another 40V battery and hope that helps. I am 70 and it takes a lot to get me out there, but once I am out; I want to finish the job. I recommend this if you do not have much to trim. I trim around yard, ditches, fencerows in horse pastures and across the road around buildings and silos. I would like to trim around pond.

Easy to use
My mom actually recommended this Black and Decker weedeater. She has one, and loves it. This one does not have a lot of bells and whistles. It is pretty basic, which I actually prefer. Makes it very straightforward, and easy to use. It is lightweight, which is very convenient for an older woman with weaker arm strength. I love that it is battery operated. I have had this weedeater for over a year, and the battery still works well. To be fair, I only have to worry about weed eating my back yard, which is an average size. I live in the desert, so my front and side yard are rock landscaping, which makes it low maintenance. The battery is a little bit on the smaller side, so if you have a large front and back yard to weedeat, you probably will not be able to finish it before the battery charge runs out. It is perfect for my needs, however.

The Black & Decker 40v Trimmer is powerful!
The media could not be loaded. The performance and ease of use make this a good to tool for trimming and edging. The speed and battery, ease of getting parts on and maneuverability provide a real value for the money.

If you are planning on using for edging...be prepared for frustration
I've been a Black and Decker tool owner for many years, and, while I had significant reservations about trying a battery-powered trimmer, I decided to give B & D the opportunity to win me over. Bottom line: Returned this item PRONTO after giving it a fair trial, primarily because of one item (noted below).Regarding the unit:Pros--Easy to put together (you will most likely need a power screwdriver for the one screw you do need to install however, manual wouldn't cut it with mine.), Battery does seem powerful enough for smaller yards lightweight but fairly sturdy.Cons--The automatic line feed seemed to work at least "fair" on trimming, although it did seem to use up line quickly. However, on attempting to do edging, it failed miserably, dispensing line only when it wanted to, and sometimes much too quickly. NUMEROUS times I checked the line when it didn't seem to be making progress, only to find that the line was 2" long and not feeding. After multiple times taking the spool out and looking things over, it appears that the culprit is the automatic feeding mechanism, a lightweight piece of plastic that moves on a pivot point to let more line out. It seems like that in the position the machine is in when doing edging, the mechanism doesn't work all the time. My personal guess is the light weight of the piece (plastic). Might work if it were metal, but there just doesn't seem to be enough mass for it to work.Bottom line--This might be an acceptable tool IF you have a small yard AND you have no/little edging to do. If you have any normal-sized yard or are needing the tool to perform in an edging capacity, I would look elsewhere.

Impressive performance so far!
Had an older model B&D trimmer and was amazed at how much more powerful this one is! Battery is quick to recharge so far and was a solid buy IMO

So far so good ..........
This is my second placed order for this value priced trimmer. The first "higher" priced 40V wacker never arrived (thankfully), but ALL was resolved eventually and very quickly via the super Amazon customer service. I purchased my very first B&D battery trimmer some 20 plus years ago. It gave me flawless and great service until just this spring, albeit the usual battery (12V &18V) replacements every few years. This new unit assembly was much easier. But as usual, current build quality lacks the robust construction of the old weeder, but the new unit is noticeably lighter. I gave it a full overnight charge and put it to work the next day. My home lot is 50x100/ft. with lots garden/fence/deck/tree/sidewalk navigation ..... it worked super using only one light-bar of power... I'm very pleased with price/service and performance of this new weed-wacker, straight outta the box.... it's a BUY !

Brand new battery flashing red light when charging
Edit: The manufacturer replaced the battery promptly and without a fuss. The trimmer is easy to use, performs as expected and the battery lasts for about 30 - 40 minutes.Just received my new string trimmer. Plugged in the battery to charge and within minutes the indicator light was flashing red. The manual says this is due to a defective battery. I'm so disappointed. I have contacted product support. Depending on the response I get I will happily change my star rating after I've had a chance to actually use the trimmer.

Battery displays rapidly flashing red light when trying to charge
I received my Cordless Multi String Trimmer Kit but unfortunately the 40 volt battery that came with the unit appears to be defective. When I try to charge the battery a red rapidly flashing light is displayed on the charger. I've contacted Black and Decker but no one has bothered to reach out to me about resolving this problem. This is the second B&D product that I've ordered from Amazon that has been defective, or arrived missing a part. To date nothing has been resolved. Update July 04, 2024 Black and Decker Support replaced the defective battery and missing part from the previous order. Many thanks.
