Does not fit older style A.S. toilets
Genuine, quality part, but if you have an older style American Standard toilet, it may have the “taller” style actuator. This actuator is the “shorter” style for newer toilets. Be certain before buying.

Water-tight section is filling with water and caused problems within 1 week
STEER CLEAR - SAME DEFECT AS THE ONE I AM REPLACING... The "barrel" that goes crosswise on the unit is supposed to be water-tight. It's molded but capped on one end. Apparently, the cap fitting leaks. This is the exact reason that I bought this replacement. The old one filled up with water and you had to hold the handle until the flush completed. This one is only at the "bucking" stage because it is just beginning to fill with water. Once it fills more, we will be back to holding the handle until the flush completes. I suppose you may be able to pry (or cut) off the cap and give it a good dose of silicone, but when you spend $20 on a new plastic part, you shouldn't be having to fix defective manufacturing processes.

Perfect fit in old American Standard toilet.
Perfect fit for my 37 year old toilet. This is the “old style” where the flapper seal and the regulator tube above have a shallow angle. It looks just like the photo on the listing. I plan to buy more as backups for my other vintage toilets. One note- the size of the hole in the regulator tube controls how fast the water runs out of it. This one has a small enough hole that it stays open long ong enough to fully empty the tank, and then some. And I have the full valve set to the maximum fill for this tank, which means it is quite a bit of water. I might want to drill the hole in the tube out a tiny bit to get it to close just as the water finishes emptying from the tank so that it will save a bit of water and finish filling quicker.
