Redeeming Love - Blu-ray + DVD + Digital

I found this movie inspiring. I recommend it. The movie takes place from approximately 1830 through the 1850s. The representation of the architecture of the era appears accurate. However, some structures, for instance, the farmer who recues Angel has a house well beyond what the typical just-getting-started small-plot farmer would have at that time. Personal grooming is incompatible with the era for some characters. A farmer would not and could not likely keep their hair and beard neatly trimmed. Some character clothing is too well kept. Christian themes are continuous throughout the movie, which is probably a historically accurate representation of America at the time. More people were probably idealistically faithful then, believing they could save others. I would say the biggest weakness was in character and plot development. The transition between plot elements is too fast. This movie would have benefited if it had been developed as a miniseries, allowing more time to develop characters and their surrounding realities. The producers and directors did the best they could with 2+ hours, but many transitions seemed rushed, and characters and the influence of their environment upon them were often weakly developed. Overall, I believe the actors did a good job with what they were presented to depict. Despite the Christian savior theme, this movie has a lot of violence, near nudity, and sexual scenes. Hence, this is not a family movie for children younger than 16-17, and might be uncomfortable even at that age.

I had never read this book or heard of this movie till I just happened upon it and I was so pleasantly surprised by how meaningful it is and how much it touched my heart! The acting in this movie was so good and the whole movie was so well made for the story it tells. It hits the mark on so many levels and layers and without beating you over the head with a bible it still teaches something precious by showing through demonstrating love's healing in ways which I can not even explain in just a review. Yet, it's even more than that, because this profoundly moving movie brought tears to my eyes and sometimes gave me soulful chills/rushes of emotion as the meaning of unconditional love unfolded and is so truly revealed through this profound story of love. I won't give away any more of the story as I highly recommend you watch it as it unfolds too and perhaps you will discover the feeling of how it will open your heart in a way that is meaningful for you too.

Movie isn’t for kids. The movie was excellent and would buy. I have watched it 3 times and love the true meaning behind the movie. No matter what life throws at you in the end it can work for the good. What seemed like sadness turned into great joy.

I have watched this movie several times now and still NOT TIRED. Its a movie that you can see with family knowing that carry a deep mesaage. Was fascinanted me most its how it captures the essence of a biblical story its based on. So I recommended because : its a powerful lesson of Grace and forgivness. Its safe for family time and the epoca dresses oh love it! Recommended 100%

Compelling story line about the depths of genuine and persistent love overcoming very deep and real trauma. Story obviously adapted from the incredible real-life story found in the ancient book of Hosea. I'd rate the retelling 9/10 but found the visuals (both the frequency and intensity of violent acts) far more graphic than necessary and the sex scenes far longer than necessary so take off at least 1 star for that. Very mature themes, adult viewing in my view. Although I realize that the envelope has been pushed in recent years with more & more violence and skin in PG movies, this felt R-rated not PG-13 to me. SPOILER ALERT: The movie thankfully did not go graphic in depicting violent sexual abuse/incest. Lots of disturbing innuendo there which was enough. But the other violent scenes were very disturbing. Twice we see murders. A third time attempted murder. Sadly our society is so numb that watching strangulation and/or someone plunged repeatedly under water might not make people blink anymore. But a movie about redemption could've done better. It isn't necessary to show everything to let the audience grasp that a violent act has been done. Similarly, the sex scenes between the two main characters just seemed out of place. Yes, we get that the husband was eager to consummate the marriage. A scene of dropped clothing on the floor or waking up snuggled under a blanket under the stars with naked shoulders / legs or whatever peeking out would have sufficed to let the audience know. Frankly the sex scene missed the entire point - the husband was waiting faithfully for his wife and tenderly wooing her, but the actors just seemed to engage in raw sex (or however close they got to it) and miss the point entirely of the union of the man & his wife. The story pulls from the beautiful, gritty true-life tale of a man who married a prostitute, dealt with her unfaithfulness, literally bought her back when she was used and discarded by others and loved her though she fought his love the whole way. The original story made a much larger, much more universal point through these 2 characters, namely that we are the prostitute constantly turning from a faithful, loving and providing husband to run after lovers that abuse and misuse us. For some strange reason this movie had next to no reference whatsoever to that point. I hope that anyone who watches Redeeming Love hunts down the book of Hosea - it is a short read -- and reads the original.

Great Movie.

Redeeming Love ❤️ is a deeply moving and beautifully told love story. It took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed, I cried, I got frustrated, and I felt every moment. The characters were compelling, and the story unfolded in such a powerful, heartfelt way. It’s one of those films that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Ich liebe diesen Film. Hatte vorab das Buch gelesen, das schon sehr berührte! Klar kann der Film da nicht mithalten, da das Buch ja meist besser ist als dessen Verfilmung. Aber auch der Film ist sehr bewegend!

Toller und sehenswerter Film für Leute, die Herzschmerz-Filme mit tollem Hintergrund lieben.

Such a beautiful film. I actually bought this DVD for my sister as it's one of her favourite books - but I took have watched the movie and it never ceases to touch my heart

The film is very close to the book and is excellent in its own right. The acting is outstanding. Some parts are just awful to watch but the goodness of the leading actors far outweighs the depths of horror that Angel goes through. So well done and for all hopeful for such a deep love this film is inspiring.
