Wrapped up almost too neatly.
This is the second Lisa Scottoline book that I have read. I was very pleased with the first one but this slightly disappointed me.The story’s main protagonist is Jake, a financial planner, who is married to a judge and has a 16 year old son named Ryan. Jake is a well-developed character with a clear backstory. Jake and Ryan have a troubled relationship because of Jake’s past employment difficulties. Jake tries to be “fun dad” and tragedy ensues. Ryan is quite frankly an annoying whiny child. He is not really likeable and the wife is also not a sympathetic character. She is a judgmental hypocritical personality with demons of her own.The pace of the book is alright. It starts rather slowly but picks up after a few chapters. There’s no suspense for awhile but once the main characters are threatened it’s pretty much nonstop until the end.My major problem with this is that it is completely unbelievable. Jake investigates and makes inferences about his blackmailer that a layperson not involved in law enforcement probably couldn’t do as easily as he does. Also, the ending completely wraps everything up and alleviates the protagonist from almost all culpability despite the fact that he really did commit what could have been a heinous crime.I was really disappointed in the ending. If you are looking for a good suspenseful thriller, I wouldn’t recommend this. I like books that I can escape into, this book was so unbelievable that I found myself aware constantly of the blatant fiction.

More twists than a curly fry
I decided to buy Keep Quiet because it's by Lisa Scottoline and I don't think there's a Scottoline book I didn't enjoy. It starts off basic... Jake, the overworking, handsome man, and distant dad, check. Pam, the strong capable wife who keeps it all together, check. Handsome, athletic son, Ryan... check. Some struggles in the past, but by golly, they're doing ok... Seems like a superficial story as Pam sets up the scenario for Jake to connect with his son.A moment of wanting to be cool dad, however, starts us on the journey, and Ryan - driving illegally on a permit after dark - hits a jogger. In a move that doesn't make the characters likeable AT ALL, they leave the scene. The root of the story is what lengths you'd go to protect your child. What makes the story good is the blend of that with emotion and the tangled lives that people lead. A single questionable choice leads to a bad decision, which leads to the emotional struggle. That could've been a book on its own, but then Scottoline brings in the threads that make this a thriller.Definitely full of twists, blending domestic drama and suspense. Full of "what would you do" moments and surprises. I enjoyed it enough that I gave the synopsis to my 16yo son because I needed to share the "and then, guess what happened?" moments. Thanks, Lisa Scottoline, for another entertaining read.

who I do believe is fast becoming my favorite author, replacing John Grisham
As the description states: Dad, "Jake" is forced to make a split-second decision that plunges him and his son into a world of guilt and lies. Without ever meaning to, Jake and Ryan find themselves living under the crushing weight of their secret, which threatens to tear their family to shreds and ruin them all.As I began listening to this novel on my Kindle, I had to keep checking: was I reading a Jodi Picoult book? No, no, it's Lisa Scottoline, who I do believe is fast becoming my favorite author, replacing John Grisham, whose titles have become a little worn and tired."Keep Quiet," has suspense, intrigue, and just enough 'lawyer life' to keep the average reader turning the pages from the first chapter through the end.It was the subject, a hit-and-run accident involving a father and son in the car, and the subsequent ethical dilemma that kept nagging at me to check who had authored this title, but really, I should have known better. Lisa Scottoline's books just get better and better as I read my way through her long list of projects. The added interest comes in when Scottoline makes the main character's wife, a judge: more drama unfolds as Jake and Ryan's (the son) web of lies catch Pam in the crosshairs. Chapter after chapter, I couldn't help but put myself into this family's dilemma: what would I do? How common it is for a parent to be put in the situation of choosing whether to be responsible adult or the 'cool Mom or Dad.'"Keep Quiet" is a must read for anyone who enjoys mystery or suspense novels.

... as I finished this book was that I am glad that is over
My first thought as I finished this book was that I am glad that is over. I read this book for a book club, if it weren't for that reason, I would have put it down after 10 pages. The people are unlikable, and unbelievable. Only the son shows any promise. We are asked to believe at the very beginning that a father would behave the way he did, lie upon lie and including his young son in the cover up. On top of that, I figured out the ending as there was no other explanation that was any where near plausible. Speaking of the ending, it was abrupt and totally manipulating. Very disappointed, have read other books by this author and although they were forgettable, at least they were somewhat enjoyable.

I couldn’t put it down!
I love a great suspense thriller and this book didn’t let me down. Once I started reading, I was hooked. Not only that, I felt all the emotions that the main characters must have been feeling as the story unfolded. I was so stressed out, worried, ashamed, scared, and devastated, all at once. I found myself unable to snap out of it when I put the book down to take care of personal chores. I truly felt like a guilty person bound by lies and promises not to tell, or do the right thing. My strong morals and ethics convicted me and I felt like the nightmare would never end. I am not sure I have ever felt such realistic raw emotions when reading a book until I read this one. There were plenty of twists and turns in the plot. Please, do yourself a favor, and read this book!

Good read
I thoroughly enjoyed this read which I found absolutely riveting. Jake has allowed his 16 year old son Ryan to drive his car home one night, with disastrous consequences when he hits and kills a young jogger. Jake makes an instant decision to protect his son, and they leave the scene and keep quiet. Of course, when you tell one lie, you have to keep on compounding that lie with more lies and pretty soon their lives begin to spiral out of control. What starts off as doing the wrong thing for the right reason, has set in motion a series of events that lead to a very surprising climax indeed.I couldn’t put the book down, I just had to know what would happen – Would they get away with it? Would they get found out? Would they confess? What would happen to their relationship with Pam, Jake’s wife and Ryan’s mother? The strangest thing of all was that, even though I knew their behaviour was morally wrong, I just wanted them to come out of this intact with no blame on their shoulders. To sum up, this is a really good, gripping read. Highly recommended.

5 Stars
Probably one of the most gripping books of 2016 for me! There were parts of this book where father and son were so close to being "found out" about accidentally killing a young girl in a hit and run accident - that I actually felt quite panicked! That's a sign of fantastic writing. I really can't recommend this enough. Thrilling, exciting, nail biting and addictive.

Personally I wasn't a fan of the writing style, but once you get past that the story is interesting enough. The end was maybe a little too neat, still satisfying though.

Really glad I read this during my holiday as I simply couldn't put it down. Twists and turns all the way. I've always loved Lisa's books but not read one for a bit. I'm off to get another.
