Q: Can this be used as a welding backing/block?

I don't know what type of welder you are using, but this block is TINY. 100mm is 10 cm which is about 4" x 4" square and about 3/4" thick. It is also fragile. It will chip if lightly struck and break of handled with any force. Yes, it is pure graphite and conductive, but for a surface to use while welding, it is far too expensive to be used for anything other than carving molds for casting. If you clamp anything to this or try to drill this for screwing down, it will not work, the piece will shatter. This graphite block is hard, but fairly brittle. I was a welder for most of my career. I don't see any practical application for using this block in a welding use.
