Nice to have some of the Band's Early Material
The main reason I picked this up when I did was to honor the memory of the band's first lead vocalist, Paul Di'Anno, who passed in 2024. At the time of writing this Iron Maiden seems to be going through a lot of upheaval and I guess that's to be appreciated for several reasons. It's amazing to listen to something that the band recorded in their early days by comparison to how they sound now. In addition to featuring Paul Di'Anno this was the first album featuring guitarist, Adrian Smith. It was also the first album the band had produced by Martin Birch (who then produced all their studio albums up until Dickinson left in '93). It's nice to be able to appreciate where their sound for that era originated. It also continues to be testimony that it takes more than one person to carry a band. Iron Maiden has consistently demonstrated competency in this regard as they've been quite resilient in the face of line-up changes/adversity of this nature. Their large, impressive body of work is testimony to that at this point. This album actually has several good tracks as well. Personally, I like "Another Life" and "Drifters" a lot. It's also an interesting listen given that the band was early in their development and some of their early influencers (e.g., Scorpions?) may be heard more prominently in their sound here then in their later work. Fans of the band will probably appreciate this album and I would encourage picking it up as a result.

The Better of the two Di'Anno Records. Quintessential Iron Maiden.
This is a great album from the Di'Anno era of Iron Maiden. It shows where the band was headed after their first record, and it showcases Steve & Co.'s musicianship and songwriting prowess. These songs are tailored for Paul's voice. It is a shame he passed away. This is one of those records that you might've bought after hearing Wrathchild, or if you're like me, you bought it because the album cover was amazing. This album made me a lifelong Iron Maiden fan. And it cemented their legacy as THE NWOBHM band of all time. This remaster sounds even better than my original vinyl. (Maybe I need a better record player.) ;) Up the Irons!

Awesome pre-Dickinson Maiden!!
OK, I have been a huge metal fan my whole life, but I never really got into Maiden. Sounds crazy, right? I remember hearing Number of the Beast, Powerslave, Seventh Son etc, and thinking "Am I missing something here?" It was alright, but never really grabbed me. I thought it was a little too bombastic or "majestic" sounding- a little too polished. I know, people are plotting to kill me right around now- just wait. So one day I was at Woolworth's and saw the cassette for Killers in the clearance bin for 2.99$. I thought I should give it a go, and glad that I did. You see, I was "missing something" with Maiden- and it was Paul Di'Anno!! "Killers" is darker, more evil sounding than the Dickinson era albums, but retains the great musicianship they are reknowned for. There is a punkier, more manic feel, and Paul's vocals, while a little rough, fit the songs perfectly. Bruce Dickinson brought a bigger, more polished sound that pushed Maiden into the forefront of metal, but pushed me away a bit. If I had discovered "Killers" earlier, who knows if I would have adapted to Maiden's mid 80s style and been a lifelong fan. That being said, this is a great album, a classic, in my mind, that should not be overlooked by metal fans who are not,for whatever reason, really into Maiden.
