Q: Would work better and/or have better sound than a plastic trumpet?

Yes. I am a band director and would not normally recommend this type of instrument for a student, as they usually are difficult or impossible to repair at music stores. However, if you have a student and aren’t sure they will stick with an instrument, it is a good, inexpensive alternate to get started. If they take good care of it, it should last them a few years. Do not buy a plastic instrument! Not reliable and not a good sound.
