A smart. really smart device.
I purchased this as a tool to find out where my lung capacity has gotten to after a couple surgeries. Using this tool I have already in just over a month seen significant improvement. It is one tool you will ask yourself why you didn't think of it.

Eh *edited with advice*
I really wanted to like this, if it worked properly I'm sure I would. Feels nice to use, everything looks good, however it very rarely reads when I'm breathing out. Keeping because I can still use it for mindful breathing and as a way to help me quit smoking but for what it's actually supposed to do it's basically useless EDIT: turns out if you block the holes in the mouthpiece it will work every time...would have liked any sort of directions so I could have avoided this but hopefully this helps someone else. Good device but NEEDS INSTRUCTIONS

A good incentive to work on breathing. Not a serious exerciser…..
I rated this three stars because it does encourage me to be more aware of my breathing, and it gives me incentive to practice exercising my lungs. A year ago I survived Sepsis. I was told I had to exercise my lungs. I purchased three different versions of those plastic ball type exercers after a nurse disposed of the one I was given in the hospital, and two others developed leaks. I wanted something different, that would add a measure of fun to the exercises. The lights do that. However, each time I use it, it “blows” differently. Sometimes there appears to be a bit of resistance, other times, it blows straight through in seconds, registering nothing at all, other times it has lit up as many as twelve lights, very easily. (As in my photo, I only had seconds to take before the lights went out. This is rare, most of the time only four light up in just seconds.) Basically it’s almost worthless as a true exerciser for the lungs. Where it’s value lies is the cute lights to encourage me to be aware of my breathing. If you searching for a serious lung work out, don’t stop here. I can see how a younger kids would really get a kick out of this, to encourage them, but again, it is not a serious instrument. It develops a lot of moisture in the mouth piece that is removable, as well as the side that the mouth piece slides into, on the instrument itself. If this isn’t removed, I can see how moisture will get into the electronic end of things. I keep a piece of Kleenex near by, to open it and dab up the moisture. It does come with three mouth pieces. I don’t know why, I was hoping they would have different size holes for resistance levels, but nope, they are all the same, except for color. Black, White and blue.It charges up, but took several hours. I have not charged it for two weeks, it’s still going. It’s easy to clean the mouth piece with soap, and warm water. I dry thoroughly, then replace. I take it to bed with me so I can use it to relax before sleep. It fits easily into a pocket, purse or hip pack. Something I do like. However, no matter hard I try, I don’t feel like my lips seal around the mouth piece, possibly the cause of it blowing straight through like a straw it a few seconds. The times I have achieved a good deal of lights, it had so,e resistance, and my lips were sealed around the mouth piece, tight. This doesn’t happen regularly. It is shaped too square to accomplish that. A bit of engineering needed here. Rounding the mouth piece would be a definite improvement. If you are looking for incentive to practice breathing, it great for that. Look elsewhere if you are serious. That’s what I will be doing.

Stopped working
When it worked for the first 6 months it was ok, I liked it for the portability and ease of use, but has since stopped working.. my guess is that dust particles have gotten into it and there is no way to clean it out… don’t buy expecting it to last very long.

Way better than I expected - great for respiratory training, anxiety, and more
The media could not be loaded. This is really an awesome piece of technology. There are a lot of respiratory training devices out there, but this one is by far the most fun, high tech, and interactive. The pictures don't do this product justice - when using it the multicolored LEDs are illuminating in real time while the LCD displays your rapidly increasing respiratory volume. It looks much nicer and is much higher quality than the pictures let on.If your goal is really "respiratory muscle training", then this device is probably best used in addition to another device that has adjustable resistance. I think the resistance aspect is a very important part of respiratory muscle training, so if you training to help with lung issues or to try and lower BP you should really consider getting both this device and an adjustable resistance respiratory trainer. This device tracks your training progress, most likely works as a respiratory muscle trainer too, and has many other uses. How it works:You take the device and turn it on. You start blowing - the LED lights start illuminating one after another, starting with red, eventually blue, then finally green if you make it far enough. It also has a rapidly increasing LCD display in ml of your lung capacity, so you can track your exact numbers and compare your progress and compare your lung capacity to friends and family. Seeing the numbers and LED progress lights increasing in real time while you're using the device is the best part - it motivates you to keep pushing and really try and beat your previous record. The real time interactive features really make the respiratory training like a game, and it makes this device fun enough that it would actually be worthwhile to show off to friends and have lung capacity contests. It comes with 2 additional mouthpieces so you can share the fun and training without sharing germs. The device itself is really well built. Its' a small sleek design with a solidly built aluminum body. It just looks awesome, and the LED lights are probably the coolest looking LEDs I've seen on a tech device in a while. The colors on them really look outstanding and pictures don't do it justice.Other uses:This would be ideal for anxiety use. I've seen other products sold specifically for anxiety that basically just make you exhale through a small hole to slow your expiratory rate - that is exactly what this does, but this is way better since it's interactive and fun. This would also be great for meditation, monitoring your lung capacity, using for circular breathing practice, and just as a health-based fun activity to share with friends and family.Thoughts:It's not exactly the same as "resistance-based" respiratory trainers, but it is much better quality than those, and has many more uses. The resistance respiratory trainer I have is basically just a cheap piece of plastic that is hard to blow through, whereas this device is solidly built, high tech and aesthetic, and tracks and records your progress. If you are really taking respiratory training seriously, want a fun lung capacity tester, or want a high-tech device for anxiety/meditation purposes - I absolutely recommend this product and wish I could give it more than 5 stars.
