Near Immediate Relief, Now I'm Spoiled for Clean Air
I did a ton of research on air cleaning systems before buying this unit, and I was prepared to pay 2-3x as much as this unit cost. After all that research, I figured out that the best performance in air filtration is going to come in the form of the simplest unit having (1) a charcoal filter for capturing chemical pollutants, (2) a HEPA filter for capturing airborne particles, (3) a fan for drawing air through the two filters, and (4) a switch or other control for adjusting the fan between of and on. My musings on these considerations follow this review. Bottom line, this unit offers exceptional value relative to the other offerings and does an effective job of cleaning the air. Within a couple of hours of setting this unit up in my living room, my eyes stopped itching and watering, and I did in fact breathe easier. I then relocated it my master bedroom, and it had the same effect within a half hour. My wife actually remarked that the air seemed smoother. We both slept very well and woke up without the usual sore throat from the dry air our furnace pumps out. The nosie ranges from barely audible on the lowest setting to tolerable on the highest setting. Once your air is cleaned up the first time, you won't need the highest setting at all. Finally, the price of replacement filters is low. Now for my research findings: Do not waste your time with UV lamps or electrostatics. They're ineffective at best, and at worst they produce toxic breakdown components - particularly ozone. These additional features add cost and complexity without any real benefit to the home user. Your real concerns are going to be threefold: - Is it sized properly for the room it will be in. This isn't a critical measure either - you've got about 30% margin such that if you buy a unit for a 300 sqft room and your room is actually 400 sqft, it will still work fine. You can't really oversize a unit either. In fact, if you put a large room unit into a small bedroom, your filters will last longer. So if the difference is within the cost of one filter change, then you might as well scale up. And in my research, units sized for bedrooms (150 sqft) are within $20 of large room filters (300 sqft). - How loud is it - this is a critical measure because a filter that's too loud to tolerate will be switched off most of the time, and therefore can't do its job. Noise level might be rated in dB, which isnt' a very good measure. If noise level is given as dBa, that is much better because the "a" means the measure is matched to the sensitivity of the human ear. lower is better - 20-30 dba is practically inaudible. 30-45 dBa is whisper quiet. 45-60 dBa is tolerable background noise. Anything above 60 will annoy you. That being said, some people sleep better with "white noise" in the 45-60 dBa range. - How expensive are the replacement filters. This is a big one. Some manufacturers will sell seemingly fantastic units at a cheap price, but that's because you're going to pay through the nose for replacement filters. As you're shopping, look at the price of replacement filters. A medium sized HEPA filter which needs replacing every 6-8 months ought not be more than $25, while a matched charcoal filter that may need replacement every 2-3 months ought not be more than $4.

Great Air Purifier for Pet Owners
I've been using the VEVA air purifier for a while now, and I'm really impressed. It's a great choice for anyone with pets or allergies. The description says it has a HEPA filter and four activated carbon pre-filters, which seems to do a great job of eliminating pet dander, odors, and dust. The size is perfect for larger rooms, and it's quiet enough that it doesn't bother me while I'm working or sleeping. The black color also looks really sleek and modern in my home office. If you're looking for an effective air purifier to deal with allergens, smoke, or pet-related issues, I highly recommend this VEVA model. It's easy to use and makes a noticeable difference in air quality.

I was going to return, then found replacement filters - recommend (provided availability continues)!
Five stars for the air purifier, Zero stars for it's maintainability and life expectancy. I purchased this air purifier in September when the smoke was apocalyptic in California. I originally purchased another one (the "top seller") but it looked like there was going to be a big delay in its delivery, so also purchased this one because it was almost as highly rated, and it could be delivered in just a couple of days. I liked that it covered a bigger area, had the carbon filters in addition to the HEPA filter, and also that replacement costs were expected to be lower than for similar air purifiers because the HEPA filter lasts longer and it came with 4 carbon filters. I ended up liking the way it looked better than the other one, so when that one finally was delivered I sent it back. I've had this one for about a month. It seems like it's working well -- the carbon filter has stuff on it, there is definitely less dust in my house, and it seemed like it helped with the smoke. But now I have learned that it's impossible to get replacement filters. They are sold out on Amazon, they are sold on the VEVA website, on Walmart, even on ebay, and every other place I can find a listing. It seems from the comments that this may not be a temporary situation. Which means once your filter needs changing, since there aren't any you would need to buy a new air purifier. I have emailed the Veva to ask about this. But if I don't receive a response within a day or so, or there isn't a firm date when the replacements will be available, then I'm returning it and purchasing the other one. It seems profoundly stupid, not to mention acting in bad faith, to sell an appliance that requires replacement parts periodically for maintenance, and then not having them available. I have to return by Oct. 15. If I hear any update from Veva that changes my mind about returning, I'll update my review. But otherwise, DON'T BUY IT, unless you are prepared to buy a new one once the original filter needs replacing. UPDATE 10/10/20: I have been emailing with VEVA customer support the last couple of days and they acknowledged that they are out of stock and have been out of stock for "some time" and they "don't have any time frame when stock will be available." So back it goes. You've been warned. Don't buy it. UPDATE 11/10/20: I've tried to update this review multiple times, but my updates disappear into the lost review dept. at Amazon. In mid-October, shortly before I was going to return it, I was able to find replacement filters on Amazon. I purchased one replacement filter set new and one set "like new" from Amazon warehouse, hedging my bets, thinking they might end up not arriving. But they both arrived early. No pressing need due to wildfire smoke any longer, but I'm still pleased with the performance of this air purifier. There is a lot less dust in the area of the house where I keep it running at the lowest setting, and I think I have experienced less congestion when I wake up in the morning. When it's running you can definitely hear it, but it's just a dull white noise. Doesn't bother me. Now that the replacement filters are available, and I have enough to last me a couple of years, I've changed from review from one to four stars. Still taking one off for the aggravation. To find the replacement filters on Amazon, search for B071N9ZXQ1. That's the item ID. Currently showing as in stock on November 29. Good luck!

I have breathing problems and purchased this for my bedroom. It has made the air feel much fresher, and having checked the filter after two weeks find it is picking up dust, dander, etc which is good. Filter easy to clean.

We have been using this now for 2.5 months. It has been working as advertised, we have checked the back panel a few times to see the amount of dust/hair and things it captures in the filters which was quiet a lot. Noise level is fairly quiet on the lowest setting, the higher settings it sounds the same as tower fan. Overall we are very happy with the purchase

I did a lot of research before buying this air purifier. We got it because we realized we have cat allergies and it made a huge difference from day one. It's quite calm on 1 and gets a bit noisy on level 2 and 3. So i run it on 3 of I'm cooking and on 1 for the night. Very satisfied with this product!
