A must have for the drill press
Installed and setup in less than 15 minutes. So far, I’d say this was worth every penny. Wish I’d bought it years ago. Fits multiple sizes of drill presses regardless of column diameter and throat dimension. It’s very easy to dial into your drill center. This makes positioning your workpiece easier, faster and more accurate. As with the other Wixey products I own, the build quality is very good and is a great value.

Works like a Champ !
set up a super easy I don’t understand what any of the bad reviews are for it . works well. I mean it’s not like you’re gonna drag it behind your car at 50 miles an hour. I have it on a wen bench top drill press that I changed the whole base over to so it’s a little customized, but it’s still a bench top drill press says zero no problem. the only downside is if your vice cradle walls are a little too high than your material too much it’ll block the laser because the laser is not coming straight down at the material it’s coming in at an angle, I gave it five stars because it’s doingexactly what it supposed to do

Excellent, but with one flaw.
The Wixey Drill Press Laser works very well. I had no trouble mounting it, or adjusting it to get repeatable accuracy to about 1/32". I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4 except for one annoyance. I found myself constantly forgetting to turn it off, and running the batteries down. I finally fixed that problem by replacing the two AA cells with a 3V AC-DC adapter. To do this, I had to install a suitable jack in the rear of the battery compartment and move over a few wires. (see photo). As claimed, the device can be adjusted to produce crossing lines independent of the height of the workpiece, It does so by producing two crossing planes of illumination, each approximately perpendicular to the drill press table. The “z-axis adjustment” changes the tilt of each beam to make it perpendicular to the table. However, the supplied adjustment procedure is slow and inaccurate. I have found a better way (see photos). Set the table to be about 12” from the lasers. Place a small mirror on the drill press table so that each beam is reflected upwards. Use small object (approximately 4” in height) to hold a small piece of wax paper to intercept both the direct and reflected beams. If the “z-axis” is not properly adjusted each beam will produce two parallel lines - one line is from the direct beam, the other from the reflected beam. Adjust the “z-axis” screw so that the two lines coalesce. At that point the beam is bouncing perpendicularly from the mirror. Repeat for the second laser. The whole process is very fast, and there is no uncertainty as to when the two lines overlap.

It works!
I installed this laser unit on a Shop Fox W1668 drill press. It seems to be well constructed and it was pretty easy to install. It always helps to read the directions. To calibrate it, I used the mirror method that Ira described in his review (he made it easy to follow with included photos) and that went very well. I lined up the z-axis on the waxed paper, then made my drill bit mark and lined up the x and y axes on the mark according to the enclosed directions. I then lowered the table about 10 inches, and lo and behold, the X was less than 1/32" off. That's gonna be accurate enough for anything that I need to do for sure. I have been using it daily for a week or so, and it's made my drill press time more productive. The lasers are bright enough that they can be easily seen in a fully lighted space, and though the lines could maybe be finer, they are accurate enough that I have no concerns. Good product and a very nice upgrade to my drill press. I had known about this unit for quite awhile, but was reluctant pull the trigger. Now i wish I had done so many moons ago.

👍+
Great upgrade for my 30+ year old floor standing Craftsman drill press. Aligning the lasers wasn’t too difficult and yes, the laser cross spot stays put despite the height of the table, when adjusted correctly. The laser blocked the built in press work light so I added a spare small 12v led flood light. Wired a 12v power supply to the light switch on the front of the press to power the light. Of course the light was too bright and washed out the lasers so I added a PWM dimmer. Since I now have 12v power available I hard wired a buck converter to the Wixey so it now turns on and off with the front light switch. The buck converter is mounted to the bottom of the Wixey plate so it’s not visible in the picture. Very happy with how everything turned out and very happy with Wixey laser crosshair.

great device for the price, but does not hold true
Other than the fact that vibration seems to make the adjustment of the Z-axis go off after a while, this little bugger is really great. Getting it back into alignment is trivially easy but should not be needed. NOTE: reviewers who say the focus changes when raising and lowering the table clearly just did not read the directions. When set up properly, the focus stays exactly where the bit will hit the wood regardless of how much you raise and lower the table. My own complaint is that this focus DOES change over time but that has nothing to do with raising and lowering the table, it is, as I said, a matter of the vibration moving the z axis. Installation and setup are very simple and straightforward. Directions are clear, simple, and concise. It's a pleasure to use and really simplifies drill press use.

read the instructions to setup correctly!
Had a wee problem out of the box but resolved satisfactorily with little effort. As for those who complain about accuracy RTFM people…..it clearly describes how set it up and it needs XYZ axis all calibrated….once done it is spot on from top to bottom of table travel. Laser could be finer but still function well as is
