Black's Cow-Horse Conditioner
This is an excellent book. It is well written, and easy to read. Very good factual and informative content on how to train your horse for use as a stock horse. It provides detailed information on how to read, handle and move cattle. Horse-cow interactions, and very practical horse-cow training information is provided. I am a retired veterinarian and am not familiar with ranches that have tens of thousands of cows and half a million acres of land which Black refers to in his manner of cattle handling. The western custom of roping all animals for any type of treatment would be frowned upon by those who promote "best practices in animal welfare". There is a lot less animal husbandry when corrals are not used at all. It is impractical to vaccinate, parasite control, pregnancy or semen test, without adequate corrals and chutes. However,I would definitely recommend this book for reading as it is very informative, interesting and educational.

Excellent Resource to have in your horse library!
I bought this book a few weeks ago and since then I have read it from cover to cover. As a former english rider getting into more ranch type riding, I found this to be an excellent tool to help explain terms and topics that related to the horse's movements and handling the cattle. Martin shows you that you don't have to be an expert with cattle or be mounted on a seasoned cowhorse to do the tasks he describes. He brakes all of his concepts down to the very basic building blocks and makes sure that they are explained well and then proceeds upwards from there. His approach is simple, common sense and easy to understand and I know that I will be referring back to this book for many years to come! I highly recommend it!!!

Excellent
One of the best horseman/stockman clinicians in the world giving clear, easy to understand descriptions of how to manage both horse and stock together or separately. Great for newcomers to ranch horse, ranch roping, or stock horse work of any kind. The book is broken down into distinct sections for horsemanship, handling stock, combining the two and ranch roping. For those not familiar with the work of cowboys, the information presented also shows the art of being a working cowboy in America. The only way to get more information from this book would be to attend one of Martin's many clinics across the US and the world. Would definitely recommend this book to beginners to the experienced horseman.

Very good cow sense in understandable language
I really like this book and the ideas it brings forward. As I was reading it , even though I've ridden horses for 40+ years I read things that made me say " I need to write what down". Very down to earth cowboy writing a very in formative book.

Stockmanship
