A Superb Instrument
First off I feel it’s best to address the materials for this pencils construction. This Rotring 500 is both metal and plastic. Plastic being the barrel, clip, and push cap. The end between the barrel and push cap, the very tip an grip; being all metal. Now I’ve seen plenty of talk about hybrids like this, or anything that isn’t all metal being trash. However I’ve used all types and from personal experience the construction doesn’t really matter as much as certain critics would make it seem.Only way construction becomes an issue is if it was made poorly that it doesn’t function right and can’t handle the load of work put towards it despite being properly taken care of.Really it just comes down to preference and what feels more comfortable.Full plastic is cheaper and serviceable enough like the hybrid or full metal variants. But through experience my preference leans more towards the hybrid and full metal; simply cause I find myself liking metal grips better then rubber/plastic, and the weight feels nicer in the hand when drawing. That out of the way, let us get to the pencil itself. As said this is a hybrid, it has a nice balance of light and heavy between the plastic barrel and its metal ends. The grip is nice and has a good length of it, compared to my other brand pencils that have lesser length in grip.End part that is twistable to highlight what grade of lead your using, is a nice novelty.Discharge of the lead is smooth and doesn’t have any jamming. It’s a very comfortable pencil that was built well to work. I like this Rotring over my Staedtler, Faber Castell, and Pentel pencils.I would say the hype is real for this brand and is one I’ll likely buy from more of in the future should I need another pencil or replacement.

Terrific pencil
This isn't the top of the line from Rotring, but it certainly feels like a first-class writing instrument. I have more than a few mechanical pencils to choose from, but even with pricier options available to me (both vintage and new), I keep reaching for the Rotring 500. I highly recommend it over similarly priced options from Pentel, Zebra, etc.

Rotring 500
No sense in dragging out a long review here, but i’ll Do it anyway. It’s a Rotring Mech. And anybody that knows anything about Rotring knows that they make the best mechanical pencils and this Rotring 500 is no exception to that fact. It’s strong, sturdy, smooth, well balanced, and will last for years, as all Rotring pencils do. People that continue to buy Rotring mechs don’t do it because they need to replace old ones. They do it to collect new ones. New models, new colors, and a new piece of mind that Rotring still hasn’t lost its superiority. Yes, there are other great mech companies out there I have in my collection, and Rotring isn’t even my favorite. But they do make the most well built pencils on the market. You might ask how could Rotring not be my favorite if I consider them the best built mechs. Well, because I also have some Koh-I-Noor Rapidomatic pencils in my collection. And I would be a fool to not consider them worth their weight in gold. However, this is a Rotring review and all the proof that you need to realize that Rotring is the finest built mech, is to go ahead and buy your first Rotring mech pencil. It definitely won’t be your last. You will continue buying them every chance you get.

One if the few that will fit a Leroy Lettering scribe
Having rediscovered the ancient art of using a K&E Leroy Lettering kit, I searched high & low for a modern mechanical pencil with a 3mm nib that would fit in my K&E scribe. These mechanical pencils fit nicely in both the K&E scribes as well as the Unitech scribes.I am a happy camper.I am tempted to but the Rotring 600 ballpoint pen to use in my same Leroy Lettering kit but they’re a bit pricey for me; especially given the fact that standard ink pen refills from Zebra and Pilot G2 fit the scribe very nicely. Maybe I’ll ask Santa for a Rotring 600 for Christmas!

Best to pay for the more expensive Rotring
I ordered this thinking it would be of the quality I know Rotring to have. After it arrived, I was severely disappointed. The pencil felt very light and cheap. It had almost no weight. It was very uncomfortable in my grip. I returned them hoping to use the exchange credits to purchase the more expensive all-metal Rotring 0.5mm pencils. My advice: if you want a sturdier all-metal pencil with weight, do NOT buy this pencil. Go ahead and spend the extra money to get a higher quality pencil.

Good value from Rotring.
I use other Rotring pencils 800, Rapid Pro and numerous 600’s in different lead sizes and HB and 2B.I elected to try their 500 series and happy to say these are an excellent choice if you don’t want to spend 2 or 3 times the cost of the 500.

'Ligero y cómodo
Me gustó el estilo, color y precio (360 mxp aprox.}. No obstante, no me gustó que el cuerpo central no fuera de metal anodizado. El material del cuerpo es plástico lo que le da ligereza pero hace extrañar la textura y sensación típica de otros modelos de la marca donde el cuerpo es metálico.

Not red
Great pencil as you would expect from Rotring. However the “red” version is more of a pink in person.
