UV provides fresh air at a much better cost then other methods.
I use this in my HVAC return side to keep the air smelling fresh and to kill germs. I looked into having a UV light installed with my new furnace, but after talking to my HVAC guy, he said those bulbs burn out a lot and need to be replaced and are expensive, so he didn't think it was cost effective. I was still interested in finding a UV light to see if it would freshen the air and kill germs. I found this UV light online and have had one in my return unit for 10 months and it's still working! The light is still on and as far as I can tell it does help keep the air fresh, and my wife has not had as many allergy issues as she did prior to me using this UV light. Since these screws in like a normal light bulb, I did need to buy a small adapter to screw it into and which would sit on the base of my AC return without falling over. Because it's a UV light I don't look at it, but since its inside my HVAC return unit, I only see a blue glow of the light to know it's still on and working. There are two types of UV lights, one that gives off an OZONE smell, and one that does not, this one does not. I tried the one that give off the OZONE smell, and it didn't bother me, but it did bother my wife. So I bought this one and it has exceeded my expectations. I believe the bulb is rated for 2000 hrs but I've left mine on for 10 months. If you calculate an average of 30 days in a month, times 24hr day, at 10 months that would be 7200 hrs, way more than 2000.

Terrific product !
Great product & seems to work great for "base up" operation. However, had a defective one and was promptly replaced. Highly recommended to help control mold, mildew, bacteria, and viruses in the basement, house, and even a few I have in the attic operating occasionally off a spring wound timer.

Effective unit, very responsive company, some reservations
On the plus side: We find this an effective product, and we had a lightning-quick positive response from Coospider when we had a problem with the unit. On the minus side: We now have two timers which are not fully functional. The lamp itself works and it unquestionably knocks back moldy and musty smells. However, neither timer functions as described. In practice, they do not have 3 settings and it's anyone's guess how long they'll keep doing what they're able to do. When we run the Coospider, we keep an eye on the clock or set our stove timer, just in case the lamp fails to shut itself off. We ordered the ozone-producing unit, and it really packs a kick! It doesn't bother my husband, but it affects my throat from quite a distance away with a closed trap door between us and it. In our situation, though, having the ozone makes more sense. We run a ventilation fan to clear the air after a treatment. Like other reviewers, we also want to figure out how to operate this lamp from farther away than its own cord and timer allow. In order to use ours, we have to climb up and down an awkward ladder, and we're not getting any younger. On the whole: Considering the price point, the friendly responsiveness of Coospider and the fact that the lamp reduces moldiness in a space that was compromising the air quality of our entire home, I'm glad we bought this. We'd do it again, and I recommend it...with the reservations listed above. I wouldn't advise trusting any of these to be 100% reliable or predictable. Don't wander too far. Keep tabs on it, and remember that if the timer fails, the circuit breaker can be your friend. Finally, if you don't already have UV-C safety glasses, remember to get yourself some before you use this unit for the first time, or it may sit in its box for a while before you can try it out. Ask me why I mention that...

Now I know what ozone smells like
Seems to work very well. Left it running in a 10x12 ft bedroom for about 45 minutes and it stunk it up pretty good. No, do not stay in the room or even look at the light. Hook it up with an extension cord, step out of the room, close the door, and then plug it in. To see if it is working, sneak your phone camera around the door or wall and look at it with the phone camera. So after letting it run for 45 mins I shut it off and left the door closed to the room. The smell went away over a few hours but that is good because all that smelly ozone is killing all sorts of microbials. Much much later I went in and sniffed the fabrics on the bed and could still smell a trail of the scent, but it was not bothersome at all. I intend to use it this way once a week or more and hope it is killing mold and a bunch of other allergens. I think this light works really well for the money.
