Dark Carousel (The Dark Book 30)

Back to the Original Roots Finally!
Dark Carousel is the best Dark book Mrs. Feehan has written in a long while. We seem to finally be back to the original roots of the series that made so many fans fall in love with the Carpathians.Tariq and Charlotte are the epitome of perfect and beautiful Carpathian Lifemates. These two characters are amazing on their own and once she accepts to Carpathians she is even better, which makes them together, amazing.Spoiler alert in this paragraph.I absolutely adored the children in this story and the little twist that come along with Liv. I completely disagree with some other reviews stating that they are worried this series is going to go into a pedophiles territory. Mrs. Feehan specifically states there is nothing sexual in Val's mind towards the child. This is very similar to how she introduced Sklyer and Dimitri. Both girls were to young to be claimed and, unlike Sklyer, Liv couldn't be claimed yet at all.I did wish that Genevieve was in this story a little bit more, but I am sure we will get plenty of her when she gets her book as she is psychic so she is bound to get her own eventually. I also do miss some of the other Carpathians that are always in the Carpathian Mountains. Every book that they are not in I always feel as if there are main characters missing from the story.I was worried at the beginning that this book was going to follow the repeated pattern of the previous handful of books lately and have more sex scenes in it than story scenes; this was not the case though. This book was story filled and the story told was amazing. It was nice to feel like like this story got back to the heart of the series with the main antagonists being Vampire and not Mage or Lycan. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the Mage and Lycan stories however, it was a nice change of pace to have the story go back to what we initially fell in love with.Overall, this story was a phenomenal story and definitely worth the read. I would reread this one again in a heartbeat.

Back to basics....with a twist
I've been a long time fan of this series but I will admit to not loving the last book in the Dark series. I follow the author on both Goodreads and her personal fan website. Lots of fun on both sites and Ms. Feehan is very open to her fans views. She usually will respond even if you don't love the story with something very nice. That being said I LOVED THIS BOOK!I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed this story. We are back in the states for the first time in a very long time for this story. Right away there is action and it never stops. For all the folks whining about there is too much sex well put it down and go find a nice Amish romance without any spice and leave the heat to the rest of us.This story was great. Full of twist and even some new plot lines introduced. I love that we are seeing the men from the monastery ( my favorite part of the last Dark book) out in the world as we join their search for their lifemates. We also have the return of the secret vampire hunting society back in the mix. All in all I don't know what more a fan of this series could have asked for. I love that Tariq is both an artist and a warrior. The carousel is beautifully built and it makes me sad that it was damaged with such a terrible curse. I was so relived that the children are safe and healing and boy I did not expect that lifemate twist thrown in there.I get that we all have that one book that our favorite authors seems to have missed the mark but keep in mind for you it might be a great read and for others off in space somewhere. I love this series so I will be back again and again. This story is being placed in my top ten of the series. For sure a repeat!

Redemption - But still leery of future books
I wanted to make sure I reviewed this book as my last review for a Christine Feehan book was one star. I'm become disillusioned with the fact that her books were mostly romance content and actual plot was sparing. As a romance skimmer her last book left me skimming all but about 20-30%.That being said this book would get a five star rating in comparison but there were still a few kinks for me. Plot-wise can I rate it six stars? It's a welcome reminder of who the author is and the stories she started telling 29 books ago. Well thought out plot, characters that I could interact with and get attached to, villains that we got to interact with and get to know on a more than superfluous level. I know someone in another review pointed out that it was Harry-Potteresque, I don't find it to be so. Feehan introduced the shards of person to us many books ago when we were dealing with Razvan so that didn't bother me.Why I rated it 4 stars instead of five.1. The descriptive language was sometimes jarring. There would be a scene that seemed romantic and then the word cock would get interjected. It has a place but there are other words that could be used as well that perhaps flowed better.2. There were a couple passages early on that seemed like exact copies of an early paragraph. Or statements of information that we'd just learned being reiterated again. I found this unnecessary, perhaps if it had been mentioned in the beginning and then again at the end I wouldn't have noticed but it was within the first 30% of the book that the reiteration happened.3. I noticed that it seemed very clear with her verbiage that Feehan was prepping us for future books with characters from the Monastery that wouldn't be 'civil' like Tariq. Cool, I get it. I'm fine with men being more or less 'domineering' or women being more or less submissive. Would I love every female character to be a kick-ass woman even if she's not a fighter, yes. I'm thinking Francesca or Desari here, strong in their own right, won't take crap from their men but still letting him be the fighter the 'in-charge' one. However I get that it's not a realistic representation of women for us all to be like that so I'm okay with more dominant men and more submissive women. My fear here is that she's prepping us for more books where there is a majority of sex and less plot and honestly that makes me nervous as I don't want to pay for a book that I skim through most of it. Here's to hoping that continued reminder of the baser nature of Siv & the like vs. Tariq can mean just as much meaningful plot with a different relationship dynamic. And that women who are more submissive still get fully fleshed out characters with quirks and strengths that complement their partners.

beautiful mix of magic, danger, and love !
Fast paced, slow burn love scenes, and, of course, magic with new and old characters weaved into this story. Page turner!
