It records pretty well, it is discreet as promised, and it does time stamp recordings. However, that being said the range could be a bit better. My main issue is that my recordings skip. Every time anyone else speaks instead of just providing an uninterrupted recording stream, it skips and jumps. This is not only annoying, but it makes it hard to ensure the recording is one flow of dialogue and also cuts people off mid-sentence or mid-word if anyone else speaks during the recording.

I don't know if this is voice activation for sure, but the sound is crystal clear. Way too loud. in a good way, you can locate this piece very far away ans still can get what you want. Believe me, because I am the guy to send everything back if it's not working right. The only reason I gave it a four stars "I want it for close rang ans it is too loud but clear.

A useful, compact conversation recorder at a very fair price
I am surprised at how good this thing is. I'm an audio/video design engineer by day, so I tend to be pretty critical of things like this. I don't know the bitrate it's recording at, but it produces a clear .wav file with 8kHz audio bandwidth (29 minutes runtime creates a 105MB file, you're welcome to do the math). This is sometimes called HD Voice, twice the bandwidth (fidelity, if you prefer) that telephones traditionally provide but essential these days as we're dealing with people who have different native languages, accents, and talk in noisy environments. (As background, there's a good white paper on this, "The Effect of Bandwidth on Speech Intelligibility")The specs say this is not compatible with Mac computers but my MacBook MacOS 10.12.6 is having no problem at recognizing, renaming, mounting/ejecting, downloading the audio files and clearing them on the device; the only thing I can't do is run the provided .exe file to set the device's time, and I could use any friend's Windows computer if that becomes more essential.So, upsides:Great fidelitygood pickupgood dynamic range (soft to loud speech, distant talkers)great pricegood operating timeplenty of memory.Extremely light. An ounce, maybe?Downsides:No indicator for when its voice-operated switch (VOX) is active. Can it hear me now? I can't tell.Some clicks in the audio, which may be a result of the VOX switching on and offUSB plug is long so it protrudes an extra 3mm or so from the side of the computer when I plug it in there.The upsides win. Highly recommended!

Disappointed. This is not a 5 star product.
I don't know why this got five stars from others. The recording is choppy. I charged the battery as recommended, then I recorded a 1 hour casual conversation with it sitting in plain sight out in the open. The resulting recording was not fluid. It was as though every pause in the conversation (along with some parts of the conversation all together) were cut out, then the fragments of what was not cut, pasted together and reduced to a 6 minute continuous string of unintelligible chatter. I don't know how else to describe it. I am not impressed and found this unusable to record any conversation for any reason. Very unreliable.The case is well made, but I do foresee the flip up USB plug wearing out and breaking off if not careful about that.I wouldn't recommend this. I sent it back the day after I received it.

Very easy to use with simple On/Off switch
Very easy to use with simple On/Off switch. Records in 1.99gb files. About 9 hrs. Will start a new file if turned off then back on again. Battery life about 12 hours. Picks up sound clearly. Playback is simple using Windows Media Player or equivalent. I had it play on my Android but it fails more times then it works. For this reason I cannot give it 5 stars.

Stopped working after 2 uses???
When i received the package it was a tiny black box that looked used surrounded by a plasticbubble bag in an amazon box. Ok so I used this a couple times , it never worked by only voice, it recorded everything. When charging the light never turned green. Now today turned it on and no light at all, I'm sure I charged it the last time. So I have had it plugged in for the last 3 hours still no light. The phone usb adapter was always a little big for my Samsung phone so I can't check if it is working until I get to my laptop.

so-so device
Not voice activated or if it is you need a totally silent room for that feature to work, the humm from a computer is enough to set it off. Very small is a plus! Doesn't really do what I wanted.
