Ergo Proxy
The item came in a timely manner. The anime itself is realy good, though may need to rewatch it again. The only thing is that since it's DVD, there was a tiny little bit of a scene that was blurred just a bit. It played just fine othwrwise and there wasn't anything else that was censored. I'd recommend to watch this anime anytime.

The price of existence
According to amazon.com's review, this series got attention because of Radiohead's single, "Paranoid Android," was the closing theme song. I'd hate to tell the reviewer this, but I don't have a taste for Radiohead. What first caught my attention was when I saw the cover for the first volume and noted the dark, muted shading, the unique name of the anime, and the intriguing-sounding premise. Watched the first episode, and I got hooked! Real bad! Some may get very confused at first abotu what's going on (as evidenced by this show's sole 1-star review), but I was starting to catch on- maybe not with what the entire mystery, but I was catching on to the series itself. What really makes the show admirable for me is that it doesn't present an Earth we're all used to, or it would've been far too convenient and, likely, too laxed.Aside from the dark, moody, muted, yet elegant color direction, it has multiple thought-provoking themes, all that creat multiple threads of a storyline that, along with many seemingly innocuous statements throughout the first 22 episodes, creates a jaw-dropping setting and story for the last episode that did drop my jaw. Some people may not get much or no sense out of maybe three episodes since they don't follow the normal structure of the other eipsodes, yet I felt as though they ee elaborately created foreshadows that took twenty minutes to explain along with, in one episode in particular (Eternal Smile [The Girl With a Smile]), shows a unique depth of emotion with something most would take for granted.Though short-lived, it proved its merit for me and may get me to do the personally impossible- watch an anime series all over again, even if just for the exceptionally beautiful animation direction. And maybe for the philosophies of human life presented throughout, and the total anarchy shown in the last couple of episodes.

what a ride
sometime, a anime is just there to steer ur expectation in the wrong direction so that it can give u a better ride. this show did that, dont let any trailer fool u, this is not a girl with gun anime, even thou there is that, this is not futuristic, even thou the show does give u that feeling, it is so much more. saying much about the show is spoiling it unfortunally, this show need to be watch to understand, cause explaining it would make it confusing and drive ppl away. the artstyle is dark, but not gothic(beside from that girl on the cover, what up with that eye highlight?) the music are ok, it doesnt stick to u, but watch it once, cause it might help u understand what going on sometime. for a show this long, to have filler episode is really weird, but the filler actually is important in finding out the key point for this series in a way that normally cant be put into this show.also, ps, if nothing make u watch it, watch it for Pino, search "ergo proxy pino" and see what she look like, if the show reputation, art, music, character, mindtesting nature is not enough for you, seeing her might be the last push for u to watch it. i know she did for me, cause i just couldnt let her down and need to see what happen to her at the end. this show did it right, cause if they even gone slightest wrong step with this specific character, i woulda rage and give this a 1 star straight upso yea, watch it for Pino, cause that make her happy

Extremely Compelling
If I would have had all the DVDs I would have watched it in one sitting. I found both the narrative and the characters to be fascinating. It presents a very complex and conflicted view of humanity, fate (reason for existence), and spirituality. It intentionally leaves some aspects of the world ambiguous because that's the point. It's meant to make you think, not only about what the writers presented, but about your own existence and your beliefs.I enjoyed the episodes that seemed out of character with the rest of the series. These are a distinguishing characteristic of chief writer Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Wolf's Rain, Eureka 7). They add something of their own and they also add to the overall development of the characters and the world. They take the characters out of the world they're in an put them into a different one so you can see how they act. I find it to be an interesting and creative character development device. If you like series that explore the nature of society and humanity, then I guarantee you'll like Ergo Proxy. I enjoyed it a great deal the first time and I liked it even more the second time. They lay subtle hints all over the place which you're a bit confused by the first time, but again, that's the point. You're not supposed to feel comfortable in this world. You're supposed to feel as compelled to unravel it as the characters and in the end, it ends up looking a lot like our own.

Surprising.
To those that buy based on trailers beware, a mix of Bubblegum Crisis and Ghost in The Shell S.A.C. this is not.At best it could be described as a downbeat Cowboy Bebop, minus the music, written by PKD in his end of career.Closer to Brazil than 1984, it will use the facade of the future to get close and personal with the viewer.Meaning this will take twist and turns of style to serve the philosophical explanations rather than tell a straight story, and also meaning that it does seem to be soaked in a personal interpretation of Gnosticism. There is a lot in there, and trying to explain it without spoiling all the effect might prove implausible. But I can at least tell that it is very relevant to the modern view of the "Raison-d'être", or rather the lack thereof.Just go in there open minded, having consciousness as a virus should probably have been the red herring that it didn't just covered android hunting. In many ways, this is more about the fortuitous pain of life we cause to ourselves and others.Foremost and above all, Ergo Proxy is a walkabout / road-trip through the inescapable reality of the self.Even when the whole world is hell bent on never letting it show.Be keenly awake while watching, you won't want to miss a single line, no matter how futile or vague it seems at first.

DVD bof

The anime to which all other sci-fi must now measure
This is the best series I have seen since Cowboy Bebop. First, the quality: the animation is top-notch, with 3d and 2d beautifully and seamlessly integrated with renderings and other CGI, and the series has 5.1 sound (absolutely wonderful!); also, the english dub is almost totally perfect (only in the last disc would I recommend watching again with subtitles, as the dub doesn't include some important details). No shortcomings, characters perfectly matched, emotionally involving and also manages to create tension between characters (something rarely done well in animation).Second, the whole package: I've seen a lot of shows and movies based on utopian/dystopian societies, but this absolutely takes the cake. It is now my favourite science fiction show EVER. If I had to compare it to other anime, I'd have to say that it takes a bit of NGEvangelion and Metropolis, other great sci-fis...you name it, and I'll tell you that this show kicks everything up about 100 notches. This show is one of those rare shows you can watch with an anime virgin and say, "Look. This is what anime is capable of doing." It breaks all the stereotypical anime moulds, and weaves itself into an incredible series.I can't say much about the plot without spoiling it, but be prepared for bits of horror, suspense, action, philosophical ramblings, trippy mind games...this is a show for guys and gals, by the way. For once, us women can watch a male lead character who isn't a total geeky nerd. Pretty nice for a change. :)There is enough violence and serious discussion in the show to make it an adults only type, in my opinion.
