My D.O. ordered this for me to take when we determined my testosterone and overall hormone levels were low. I was 54 at the time. At first I took one capsule daily (50mg) but after a few weeks or so I had trouble sleeping, and would wake in the middle of the night with claustrophobic feelings. I also had anxiety and angered easily (I am usually a laid-back guy). I couldn't figure it out until I stopped taking this and then it went away. So then I split the dosage into two or three doses, taking one per day (about 15 - 20 mg) for two or three days in a row then not taking another dose until a week or so later. This has worked out much better. I talked to my doctor about this and he said that he has other patients that take the full dosage daily without any side affects. Perhaps I am just more sensitive to it I don't know. Anyway, I really like this product because when I take it in the morning it increases my energy levels and helps me to concentrate. I have a highly technical job and this stuff really helps. My hormone levels have all come back up and stabilized. I also use a testosterone creme every few days or so and that also helps. It is compounded by a pharmacy for me. Note: I think taking the pregnenolone only for a few days then stopping is best for me because it lets my body process it and use it without over stressing it or raising the DHEA and other hormone levels to high. I found a link to a doctor on some website who also recommended not taking this more than 10 - 15 mg per week. It think I fall into this category. I am taking this as directed by my general practitioner and it's given me my life back. There are studies on DHEA and certain autoimmune conditions, but my doctor says DHEA in large doses can have some bad side effects for women (acne, facial hair, etc), so she suggested we try pregnenolone instead, which is 1 step before DHEA and doesn't have those side effects. I had previously taken DHEA but (as a woman) had to do a very small dose, and was able to switch to pregnenolone at a fairly large dose. This has been the missing link in my condition, I feel now like I did before I was diagnosed!!! Hormones aren't an FDA-approved treatment for my condition, so my specialist doctor was of no help with this, but luckily my GP was willing to test me and work with me on it when I asked her. Life Extension brand is always the highest quality for a reasonable price, highly recommended.

Honestly, I think they do not absorb as well because it has to go through the liver at least in my case that seems to be the situation when I did my blood labs. so I got some creams instead, but if I do use the tablets, I might take a capsule and crack it in my mouth and let it marinate in my mouth for a while to see if I can get it too absorb underneath my tongue. But everybody’s different so it may work for other people.
