Q: How can this be fit for both top and side? The weight bearing for side (on the bottom hinge) is a lot more?

There are two types of hinges. Top windows (upward opening) have hinges on the side, side windows (opening left or right) have hinges on the top and bottom. You will need to select the relevant hinge for the window type. (The hinges for the side windows will be compatible with windows opening either left or right.)

Q: Which part correspond to the 12, 16, 20 etc. inch?

it means the overall length ,so if it says 20 inch thats how long it is but you will have to divide 20 by 25 to get it in mm

They are horizontal and fit to to the top and bottom of the window and into the channels top and bottom of the frame. Had to make a slight alteration but nothing major and I am not a window fitter. They did what I intended which was for the window to close properly and make a good seal stopping draughts and noise. The old ones were sprained. Hope this helps.
