I bought these to gently burnish some high spots in a rifle action.They work a treat!

After looking for an effective way to sharpen serrated knives, these seemed better suited than most others, particularly electric ones.They just arrived today, and I've used them on 1 knife so far.Things to note:- the certainly seem to work. Having the multiple sizes works well, as the 1 knife I've used them on had 2 different sized serrations; the different sized rods were welcome and allowed sharpening the entire length of the blade, (of course, 1 "tooth" at a time).-I wish they were longer. Because they're relative short, it took plenty of strokes to achieve the keen edge I like on my knives. Despite that, it was obvious they were doing the job. I spent about 12 mins on the 1 knife I sharpened.- they accumulate scrapings. The rods I used became visibly covered/blackened with the minute shavings from the blade. The more strokes I made, the darker they became. While that's strong indication they were doing their job, I wish I knew the best way to clean those scrapings from the rods after using them. (I wet the rods and used a paper towel to wipe them. That removed some of the scrapings, maybe half, but certainly not all). I'm concerned that they may become less effective over time as the scrapings build up on the rods without an effective means to thoroughly clean them.- the rods seem very brittle. Luckily I didn't drop any, but I fear if I had I would have had ruby shards in place of a ruby rod. They came in a bubble-wrap bag, wrapped in more bubble wrap, which was inside a small cardboard box. They were well-protected for shipment, but to protect them going forward, I'll be looking for some kind of tube or case to keep them together and store them in.If you know how necessary and useful a sharp knife is, if you want to sharpen serrated knives, and if you don't mind the numerous back-and-forth strokes to achieve that, I'd recommend them. If you don't have the patience, look for something else, but know these seem to work.

I needed some stones for honing the inside curve of my carving gouges and this fit the bill perfectly. It was affordable, offered a good variety of sizes, and work really well to hone the edges of both inexpensive and premium gouges. There is a noticeable improvement in the gouges' sharpness between just using a strop and using these stones before stropping. They also help you refine the upper edge while sharpening if you want to add a slight upper bevel. I've had these for a little while and they've seen lots of use. So far, they have held up quite well to medium-heavy use. I highly recommend these stones!

I use the ruby dowel sharpening rods on smaller carving tools. They do a reasonably good job of polishing the concave side of the bevels.

Pricey for what you get

Check the length, I must not have as they were shorter than I expected. Excellent product for touching up an edge in a tight spot or especially good for rounded edges.

They work great, the stone is soft. but they are shorter than I would like them to be, there is not much room for your hand when sharping,
