Good for plain waffles but….
Great item for plain waffles mainly. Easy setup and cleaning. We don’t use any non stick spray and waffles come off without issue. Just one flaw but it’s mainly due to my family’s preference. We love to add choco chips and banana slices to out waffles but it did not work out well when we attempted it. Mini choco chips alone work well but they mainly sink to the bottom unless you sprinkle them in separately as you pour. When we added banana, they clumped up at the top and almost none of the batter flowed down. That was a failed mission. Overall, it does make very good and delicious plain waffles!

Great Waffles
My dad had me order this for my mom for her mother's day gift from him after she saw how much her mom loves her that she bought to make waffles for her and my grandpa. Since then my mom uses it enough and loves how easy it is to make waffles and how easy it is to clean. The added advantage is that we know it will work for a long time as my grandma uses it pretty much daily and has for several years now with no issues.

With the right mix, extraordinary.
I enjoy the occasional waffle, but have always been unimpressed with the results from home irons. It always seemed like I would end up with an under- or over-cooked waffle that was soggy regardless of doneness. I contribute that issue to the mix, and I've tried many, including homemade. However, I recently came across a mix, that in tandem with this waffle iron, makes the perfect waffles--repeatedly. If you prefer your waffles to have a golden (true golden, not burnt) and crispy exterior with a soft fluffy core, try the Augason Farms Pancake & Waffle Mix on a #3 setting. It's the perfect mix for this waffle maker. This iron is quick to get to operating temperature, quick to cook, and has an audible and visual alarm when your waffle is complete. With a little practice, you can pour batter without measuring by stopping the fill at just below the top grid row that is somewhat visible from the pour opening. This allows the batter to expand without excess and leaving you without a messy overfill situation. The non-stick plates make removal of your finished waffle a breeze, and with all my mix/batter trials, never have I had a waffle stick or difficult to remove. That being said, I haven't tried sticky add-ins such as chocolate chips, and I can see that being a potential issue if that's how you roll. Overall, this waffle maker cooks evenly--top to bottom, front to back--and makes preparation and cleanup a breeze. With the right mix used, it is exceptional.

Great Waffle Maker
I was curious about the vertical design of this waffle maker since I'm used to the horizontal ones hotels used. Because it's the Ninja brand I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I bought this cause it's great. Warms up fairly quickly, has non stick sides so no need to spray oil. There's a bit of trial and error for the amount of batter to use in the provided scoop. I use the Red Mill's Waffle Mix and notice that I need to use more than what's recommend by Ninja for it to cover the whole inside plate, but I'm sure it's because of the mix itself. Cooking time isn't that long, and easy to set the preferred doneness of the waffles with the dial. Clean up is a breeze because of the nonstick. Overall I'm happy with this maker and hope it lasts!

Really great waffle maker but has a few issues (Not mess free, sticky labels, and bad pour cup)
We bought the stainless steel color/version of this waffle maker on Amazon. We previously had a horizontal type of waffle maker and lamented every time we made waffles because of the horrendous mess it would cause. This waffle maker has a lot of improvements and isn't as messy as the traditional horizontal, but there are some drawbacks.Pros:1.a It's very easy to use and works very well2.a The waffle maker does make incredibly good and crunchy waffles2.b There are multiple heat settings from 1 to 5. We opted for the 3 setting, which make the exterior nicely browning the outside with the inside left light and fluffy2.c The heat settings actually do work, meaning when the waffle iron beeps, it's really the doneness you want3.d It is very slim and takes up little space4.e Some waffle makers have a chemical smell at first, but didn't notice that with this one4.b Highly recommend cooking your first waffle and throw it away just to get rid of any factory remnants5.a Batter recommendations did fit into the machine, such that when using the 1 full cup, it did not expand to the extreme out the top. That is a nice feature6. Construction is solidCons - we have to knock off a star because these are pretty easy fixes1.a Ninja, please stop putting extra sticky stickers on the devices.1.b When we peeled off the "remove before using" sticker on the iron, it left an extremely sticky residue that took goo gone to remove.1.c t took me 20 minutes to get the sticky factor off, and I really don't enjoy putting goo gone on devices used to cook food.2.a The pour cup is absolute trash.2.b When you pour the batter using the pour cup, make sure to use some other means to pipe the batter into the top.2.c It will spill out the back side if you don't because the batter cup isn't really designed to pour. It's really just a measuring cup

Waffles for all!
We love this waffle-maker. It's so compact and works like a charm. We use a little over 1 cup of batter and set the dial to #4, and the waffles come out perfect! Its a little expensive, but worth it!
