Aliens intend to take over the planet and, just in case Godzilla tries to interfere, have built a mechanical version of him to put an end to his interference. The Earth humans summon the legendary King Seesar to assist Godzilla in the battle.

A Fun Movie
One of the great things about this DVD is the option of watching the film in Japanese with English subtitles, which is never shown on cable or TV so it is great to be able to see the movie for the first time the way it was originally shown. This is also a film that I kept confusing with a The Terror of Mechagodzilla, which is the sequel to this film and which I have owned for many years now. In any case, this is fun film to watch and add to any collection of Godzilla movies.

The Best of All Godzilla Movies - Japanese Audio with english subtitles
Most importantly, THIS MOVIE IS IN JAPANESE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES. All caps for my fellow English-speaking Kaiju fans. The movie plays fine with no issues on my Bluray player. Compared to "other" sources of availability for this DVD, this is probably worth what they are currently asking for it. Please check out my Subjective Review and Content sections, below.DVD Content:* The disc is advertised as un-cut but since I didn't remember hardly any of the movie from my childhood, I cannot attest to this so I'd appreciate some fanbase input to attest to this claim.* The video transfer looked good on my Bluray player (which upscales) but it is definitely a DVD. Don't expect HD quality. The picture was clear, no artifacts or strange color aberrations that I can recall when viewing the movie. Only thing is in the night scenes, the overall brightness balance seemed a little off but it may have been my HDTV's brightness setting at the time.* It has (2) audio tracks on it: Japanese Dolby Digital 2.0 with English subtitles and the second track was Stereo as well (probably DD) did not sound like Japanese to me but I'm not sure what it was - it had no subtitles on it, though. I have to comment on the fact that the original audio transfer on this DVD was not very good at all when compared to the English dub that I found on Walmart's Vudu.com last week.* The original trailer is included (all in Japanese)* A special feature is included with full motion video of the MechGodzilla and Titanosaurus (from "The Terror of Mechgodzilla") costumes which was way cool, although there was no audio track on this.My subjective review of the Story:I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid back in the early 80's so I don't know why Toho would pull their (IMHO) best Godzilla movie off most of the US market but after watching this movie, I really think it is the best Godzilla movie I have ever seen and I own 20 of them. I thought the story was far and away above all of the other Big G movies. It really was ALOT of fun to watch and a really engaging, cohesive movie. Overall, this movie is probably the least "campy" of all Godzilla movies. I really wish that they would release the English dubbed version and this version on Bluray. Perhaps we will see these versions available for purchase, soon.

didn't work, but I got a refund
Unfortunately the disc didn't work, but I'm pretty sure that it's just a one-off issue. I contacted the seller and they were quick to respond with solutions and a refund. So that was great. The movie itself if you haven't seen it is a great Showa era Godzilla movie that I 100% recommend. I own it digitally and was just looking for the DVD in hopes of getting to watch the dub again.

re: Best Godzilla movie ever made,
This was by far, the best Godzilla movie ever made. The only exceptions perhaps is the original Godzilla (his first movie) and the first appearance of Monster Zero. The fight sequences of man and beast were terrific.....dare I say the fights between man and alien were actually believable? The main human hero, Shimizu was actually a complete character: thoughtful, cunning, headstrong, but take-action. Unlike most of the humans in the Godzilla film, he was not a complete idiot! I mean, making a copy statue of King Caesar was a brilliant move!on the idiotic side for a character: why the Professor who helped fix Mechagodzilla bring his daughter to the most dangerous areas, is beyond me....I know, it's only a Godzilla film, still...! I guess those scientists aren't very wise, eh?And, the other complaint is: if the aliens were so ruthless and bent on detroying Tokyo/Earth, why not just kill Shimizu and the girls to get the Statue of King Caesar? (and when the Chief of the aliens orders Mechagodzilla to kill Caesar, why didn't he just fly over and blow him to bits?)--well, of course, if that happened, we wouldn't get any of the cool and cheesy Japanese singing to wake King Caesar up!!Anyway, enough of the "plot" hole mistakes.... the music was intense and interacted well with the movie itself. the battles between the monsters reminded me of old wrestling moves, and or gladiator type battles. I always love it when Godzilla postures to his enemies with his gestures and body language. Even the camera angles to certain scenes made sense!Yeah, I watched it too many times, but it brings a smile to my face whenever I watch these cheesy Godzilla films as I recall memories of my childhood--and it will always help me forget the stuff that happens now.Cheesy or not, Godzilla, the guy in the rubber suit, will always be THE Godzilla to me, and not the CG stuff of the 2000s era.
