Our 2nd Purchase
Depending on where you live, considerations need be made for if you should add in spar varnish to waterproof this item. We did not on the first purchase and less than two years in, its chipping, fading, splitting apart, and the ants in this area have taken to eating it (Not termites.. I checked).. the first one protected our community cat nicely, but I was not happy seeing the wood rot and it was stored on our back porch, protected, for year round use. Our second one, I’ve laid out pieces, added in two coats of spar varnish and set out in the sun to cure it additionally before putting it together. I took careful attention to seal all of the wood except on the interior, and I sprayed a few coats of FlexSeal on the tar roofing as that fell apart as well. If it helps, I am in Zone 4 Indiana (Southern) so we get a little bit of everything every 5 minutes except for volcanoes! I have used a weatherproof liner that typically goes on the inside of the garage doors as extra weatherproofing for the interior walls, layer with straw in the colder months (straw for survival, it returns the heat) and I use K&H heating pads (Electro soft) for 6 years. In the spring, summer and fall, I just use old towels or this time, a fancy dog pad that is washable.I believe this time, the extra Spar varnish will help it maintain its wood integrity. I did find some great feet that were solid steel so that the feet are not in contact with water or the ground, (think like a bed riser) to keep water from splashing in too easily. I also took out the partition it comes with, and used part of that to reduce the opening to help keep the straw in and bugs out. All of the panels are foam enhanced internally so be careful if cutting corners on floor for the heating pad. I will update with pics later as I am letting the roof be waterproofed some more before attaching it. I do intend on adding in a yoga mat on top but without attaching it to the roof so that it has some overlap to keep rain from settling on it.. I know our outdoor cat will enjoy the mat itself and this way, maybe it lasts longer.

Great stuff
Amazon did not follow my delivery instructions and because of that someone stole it from my porch. After getting in touch with Lucy from GDLF support, they replaced it, and shipped it via FedEx instead of Amazon. FedEx followed my delivery instructions so I finally got my cat house. Excellent product with outstanding customer support.

Kitty is enjoying her CDU
The media could not be loaded. We took over the care of an outdoor cat after the neighbor that was caring for her moved. We wanted to make sure she was safe from the cold and larger predators and this little house had been perfect for her! It’s taking awhile for her to trust it which is fair. Slowly but surely she’s starting to love it and takes little naps in it here and there. It was easy to put together and is holding up well. I would recommend the cover that is usually advertised along with this item. It seems to keep in the heat a bit more and protects it the house over all. The house stays dry through rain storms and warm throughout the evening. I also placed a Ring stick up camera which fits perfectly in the back right corner when the cat enters her little apartment aka her CDU.

Needs scape door
It has one problem it doesn’t have an escape door. It’s one entrance and no way out if a predator gets in. So none of my ferals go inside they only stay on top of it. Or sleep on a pile of leaves. You make noise when you walk on leaves.P.S don’t shame I already have 9 indoor cats. I can’t afford anymore. I wish I could

sturdy & well crafted feral cat shelter
I bought one, set it up, then went back and bought a second one. The setup instructions are pretty straightforward, and I got through both setups without problems, but I did find I had to stare at the hinge diagram/instructions extra-long to ensure I got it right both times. The second house setup was a little bit faster than the first house setup, likely because only a week or two separated the builds.I really like this shelter because is sturdy, solid, and safe. There is not a second door for an escape door. This keeps the warmth in and keeps the shelter size to a manageable size.I have one feral shelter mostly out in the open because that area doesn't have much roof overlap. We also set beverages on the roof of the shelter when we were outside by our pool in our small backyard. The other feral shelter is located on my covered open porch. For the shelter on my covered open porch, I leave the roof open on the shelter. I've had these about 8 months, and they still look brand new (refer photos) as they use quality, sturdy materials for the shelter construction. I highly recommend these due to the construction. One add-on that would extend the life: either position the completed feral shelter structure on cement, stone or seal the bottom of legs with paint or spar polyurethane because water will wick-up the legs along the woodgrain. Anything made with real wood needs this, so it is not unique to this shelter. In fact, I see it as a plus that the legs are real wood. Sealing the grain should help these shelters last perhaps 10+ years, depending on if any other maintenance arises over time. If ever I need another feral shelter, I'll be back to get a third from here. Finally, while shipping date posted was given, I want to thank this company. When I ordered my second feral cat house, single digit cold was in the Texas weather forecast. They sped up the delivery and I had it constructed and outside to keep the neighborhood strays more snuggly outside in advance of the worst of the winter storm. This coming year, I am so pleased that because construction is so quality, I'm ready - and I'm probably ready for the next 10-20 years' winters! THANK YOU FOR MAKING SUCH A GREAT SHELTER! In case Amazon combines my feral cat shelter with other products, this is my shelter's description:GDLF Outdoor Cat House Feral Cat Enclosure 100% Insulated All-Round Foam Weatherproof Solid Wood Large Size for Multiple Cats 34.5" L*21.5" W*27.2" HI hope this review helps others.
