Can this fit a 64oz water bottle?

A 64 ounce (1/2 gallon) water bottle will not fit in the exterior side water bottle pockets.

My son needs a water repellent bookbag for college. Apparently, it rains a lot in the fall where he is going. Does this bag keep the contents dry?

This pack is not waterproof. The exterior fabric does have a water-repellant finish, but water can still enter through the stitching and zippers. We recommend placing sensitive items inside a drybag or drybox before placing inside the pack. Or your student can wear a poncho over himself and his pack while walking in the rain. There are very few packs of this type that are 100% waterproof.
