Awesome Adapter
Worked perfectly. Over time we have accumulated many laptops, with some missing their power cords. I didn't want to trash them, so I bought this to find out what was on all the hard drives. Very plug and play. Now I can wipe all the data and even try to sell the drives to make up for the cost of this adapter.

retrieving lost info.
I've used it just on one laptop, and I have 3 or four more. So far it works fantastic. And I even plugged it into like a 3.2. Red usb port and it. worked really well, so there's that. would recommend shipped fast. packaged well.

A drive adapter that works
It works exactly as advertised. I was able to use it on all four of my old harddrives I had sitting in a desk drawer. However, the instructions were limited for non-tech savvy users. Perhaps add a link to a website with more detailed information.

Easy setup and use
This hard drive adapter can be a life saver when needing to recover files from older hard drives. It was easy to setup and use. If you need one this is one you can count on.

It just works.
I plugged it in and it just worked. In my case, I connected a SATA optical drive to both a Windows and a Linux system with it. Perfect.

Works for almost any hard drive with a couple catches
This adapter works great for almost every Hard drive. It is so handy I bought two. There are a couple things to remember after I used this on over 20 hard drives. You must turn the power on to the hard drive before plugging in the USB cable (about 15 to 20 sec). This gives the hard drive time to power up. With newer SATA hard drives and solid state drives this is not as important. It is essential with older IDE drives. There are adapters for connecting solid state drives to the USB port. This is not one of them. The power MUST be turned on to work.If the hard drive is really old (like from 1995 or older) this may not work. Not because the adapter is not working but because the hard drive cannot send its info to your computer. There are two other hard drives that this did not immediately work on. One was an early model SATA drive that needed a power plug like the older IDE drives take. The power cable on this device was too short to reach the plug. I was able to get a power cord extension which allowed me to power up the drive. The other drive was an ancient Maxtor 1.8 GB drive. The plug was recessed so far into the drive that the adapter would not engage to the drive. This is the only drive I have seen like this.

SCAM ALERT! It doesn't work for ANY DRIVE!
Doesn't work. I purchased this to be able to access data from an old 2.5" IDE hard drive. Plugging the drive in, I can feel it spin up and it shows up as a D: drive on the computer, but clicking on the D: drive hangs the computer. Because I wasn't sure if the IDE drive was bad, I connected a SATA SSD that works perfectly fine when directly attached to the computer. Same results. If this device is turned on, the computer just hangs when trying to access anything attached to it. If I turn it off, the computer recovers.

Works. Usually.
Spent hours trying to look into old IDE hard drives I had. Then I realised the key tab on their plug didn't necessarily line up and the plug could go in skipping the first two or the last two pins on the drive. Once I realized this I was able to check them all easily.
