Excellent Find!
The grill arrived sooner then scheduled. It is true to size and appropriately heavy. We've used it every weekend since it arrived and have it set on top of the gas grill grates on the outside grill. We use the grill side more than the griddle side. It has a nice lip to the edges so there's no spill over onto the inside of the grill. It has exceeded our expectations and wish we had purchased it sooner. It is well made and has not disappointed.

Perfect for a large BBQ
My husband kept talking about a griddle BBQ, until I bought him this....he loves it! Great quality. Heats evenly. We both love that it is a smooth on one side and ribbed on the other. Perfect grill marks on the steaks!

Bayou Classic 28" cast iron reversible griddle
This is a great product. The packaging was not good..but that was to be thrown away anyway. I also purchased the two eye grill stand and they work great together. the stand does however need to be at least a foot taller and I am only 5'3. My husband is a chef so he is used to huge grill areas. The cast iron is heavy..but has been smooth and seasoned from the beginning. I did re-season it with some solid shortening and putting it on a low heat gradually adding heat. I then wiped it clean with paper towels after letting it cool down naturally. I always clean it after using and add a layer of cooking oil to keep it nice. We use a piece of sheet metal to cover the grill and leave it on the stand instead of having to take it in and out. This grill cooks really good. ...the length is good ...but I do wish the cooking area was about 6-inches wider. It has a drain area around the edges and that is nice but takes up space on the actual cooking area. This would also be a great grill to load up and take camping if you are into that.

A main staple!
I don't write many reviews, so this griddle is special. I did the recommended (by one of the review posts) sanding and seasoned stove-top... It does everything, including delicate crepes and omelets. On my Thermador commercial-size 6-burner range, I can orient it in either direction (with some overhang, which I allocate to the trough-side). If needed, I store it on top of my refrigerator... But it is so convenient, that it normally resides on the left two burners of my stove as a warming plate or a heat sink (as I pull things out of the oven, or warm plates / keep warm side-dishes before serving. I also take it camping, it fits beautifully on a large dual-burner camp stove (serving hashbrowns and pancakes to a youth group of 40 teens). I love this griddle!Get yourself some nice large stainless spatulas and it will be a main staple in your domestic and adventure cooking equipment.

Cracked the first time it met a heat source
I finally took some time to take the manufacturer cure off and season it myself, and while it was on the stove top on medium making sure it was bone dry before oiling it up, I heard a monumental CRASH sound that scared the absolute crap out of me, with the crack appearing directly over the largest burner. The whole reason it was on such a low temperature is that I wasn't confident of the temperature gradient between burners, so I was really leaning toward low and slow. I also expected that if any temperature gradient issues were to appear, it would be at the midpoint between the two burners, NOT directly over the main/largest one.Maybe it was a manufacturing defect, or maybe my stove has magically become a miniature star when I turned my back, but either way I'd stay the hell away from this thing unless you want to scare yourself to death.

Fantastic Griddle!
This is a fantastic griddle. I was looking for a larger griddle than the dinky think that we have. I found some really expensive ones before I spotted this one. I looked at the reviews and wasn't sure, but for the price I figured I would take a chance. I was sure happy I did. This is a really nice big heavy griddle. It distributes the heat evenly and has a really great drip trough. My spatula fits right in the slot for cleanout. It is not a 1000 dollar griddle, so don't expect a 1000 dollar griddle. We took and sanded it down with a heavy emery cloth before we used it. That smoothed out the rough surface. It works beautifully. I am not accustomed to working on a large cooking surface, so it is taking a bit of a learning curve. It is really wonderful to cook bacon, or meat for the whole family at one time. It is heavy, so don't expect to be throwing this thing around like a pot. For us, it is a fantastic cooking surface.

Serious Reversible Griddle
Item shipped and arrived on time as per Amazon as always. I have purchased other Bayou Classic cast iron pieces locally before and know of the shipping box complaints first hand. My 20" diameter cast iron skillet was purchased from an Ace Hardware and came in a cardboard box with a sheet of paper for use instructions. I am pleased to say that this item was better packaged that I was expecting. The griddle was wrapped in plastic, whooptydo, but also wrapped with Styrofoam to keep it from being completely unprotected, Huge improvement. Unfortunately the casting process in the one I received had some bowing on the ends that was unacceptable and gouges too deep to correct with Emory paper so I decided to RMA it. I have found that cast iron from bayou classic does need a little attention to get it the way I want it, but for the price and fact that once you get the one you want it will last for a lifetime and then some. If the next one I get comes back better then I will revisit this review and increase the stars. So it took me some time to come back and revise this review. I did receive another griddle and found the same "improved" packing. I have since seasoned it on my out door propane burner and once more on a BBQ that would hold the whole thing. I did for my own purposes put my orbital sander and smoothed out the griddle side before I seasoned it. I have used it twice indoors on my range, once for bacon after I seasoned it and once on the grill side for seared pork chops. It is a beast, it isn't light weight, it took a little work after the purchase but I would buy it again without hesitation. For anyone wondering for outdoor cooking, I use a Bayou Classic KAB6 kick a banjo plus and it can heat the entire griddle.
