The most satisfying sprinkler I have ever owned
This sprinkler is actually fun to use, the multiple adjustments permit you to precisely control exactly where the water goes, no matter the odd dimensions of your yard. It lays down a heavy supply of water, so it's satisfying to watch it go back and forth, back and forth. Like watching a Zamboni ice rink cleaner or a small brook flowing, or a gentle log fire. Relaxing. The metal base is heavy enough so it stays where you put it. The hose to sprinkler connection has ribs to turn it easily. The controls are solid and work smoothly. It sprays water a very long distance, and I have just ordinary water pressure. I'd say this will last 10 years or more. The caveat is not to abuse it by slamming it into the ground, yanking it around, stepping on it. The control levers aren't designed for that kind of abuse. They'll break. Same for the little rubber nozzles. They squirt the water perfectly, but they aren't metal, they're flexible plastic of some sort, and are delicate. Step on 'em, smash 'em into anything, and they won't be perfect any longer. Possibly the hardness of your water could be a factor that would eventually change that perfection. The water where I live comes off a glacier and is incredibly soft - no minerals. Another reason I expect this sprinkler to last 10 years.

Pretty good sprinkler, not necessarily long lasting
I'm purchasing my fourth Melnor XT today, my first one was purchased maybe 4 years ago. They are good, adjustable sprinklers- I have a number of beds that have wonky shapes and I'm almost always able to get it adjusted to fit the bed. The downfall is that it's all plastic, and something breaks after about a year, year and a half. The gears went in two so they no longer oscillated, the adjustment piece to narrow the field is broken in one I have now, and despite my best efforts to clean, some of the holes on each will stop putting out water so I get a strip that doesn't get any water. Despite knowing its short life span, I still find it a good sprinkler. I once purchased a much more expensive all metal sprinkler hoping it would last longer. It did not.

Watering is a breeze with this Melnor lawn sprinkler.
This Melnor lawn sprinkler is perfect for our front yard. Our yard has two sections divided by the walkway to our porch. One section is 16' x 16' and the other is 16' by 22'. I use this sprinkler on each section individually for easy of set up. The adjustable spray mechanism makes it simple to widen your coverage and deepen the coverage. I've used this for two seasons so far and it still works like a charm. It's lightweight plastic so store it away carefully between seasons so it doesn't get stepped on. It comes w/timer and easy disconnect so you can turn it on before going to bed and not worry, it will turn itself off.

Works very well
I have been using impulse sprinklers for decades. I have been setting them up in the corners of rectangular areas and moving them around to the other corners for far too long. I should have picked up one of these decades ago. This oscillating sprinkler is very easy to adjust to the shape that you need. I have the three-way adjustable model with a plastic base. You don't need the metal base; it is stable as it is. The metal base is just an aluminum shell and not much heavier anyway. I do wish I would have picked up the one with a built-in timer. It is easy enough to set a timer on my watch, but a built-in timer would have been nice. I may buy one of those too so I can set up an area and go to bed. The spray pattern is tight enough to give very even coverage. The area covered is much larger than expected. I wasn't sure whether or not to believe the manufacturer's claim, but I am able to water an area over 3,000 sq ft easily.

Clear instructions, perfect functionality.
I used this to replace cheaper sprinklers that couldn't cover the area needed. This allowed me to very precisely aim the water where I needed and also allows me to move the sprinkler around and re-adjust to cover the same area. Build quality seems good, adjustments are somewhat intuitive though I did have to refer to the instructions to make sure I had it right. Thankfully the instructions were clear and well written. It took less than a minute to have it dialed in where I wanted. I didn't use the quick disconnects. I never do.

Works well, even with hard water
Why did you pick this product vs others?:We have extremely hard water here, and I was worried that this would get clogged up immediately. It is very adjustable and works very well, even after using it every day, twice a day.Metal construction:The construction is excellent. I like the weight of the metal because it doesn't flip over or move if we bump it. It stays exactly where I want it.

Hands down the best oscillating lawn sprinkler!
I've owned a number of oscillating and stationary lawn sprinklers over the years and this is far and away the best of the bunch for the following reasons:1. Solid and heavy metal frame which makes it very stable.2. Fastest cycle speed -- very helpful when setting the side-to-side "spread" distance to avoid watering the sidewalk. The speed saves a lot of waiting through each cycle to see if you have the coverage spread set correctly.3. Convenient controls to set the forward and behind spray spread (none of my others ever had this feature).4. Water volume control knob right on the sprinkler itself -- another really important feature none of my other sprinklers ever had.If you want to skip all the time-wasting that I've been through over the seasons and utilize a truly precision oscillating sprinkler, this Melnor is the one to buy, hands down. It is a bit more expensive than the less-capable ones (of any brand); but then this is a good example of "you get what you pay for". In the future, it is the only one I would buy anymore. It will do the job very capably.
