The design of these ponchos are beautiful BUT.... the material is a bit of a nightmare!
I purchased two of these lovely looking ponchos at the end of March; one design no.18 (orange) & the other design no.19 (pink). They are both the same lovely design & only differ in color. The orange one on arrival was very true to color as visualized on the Amazon US website & I immediately looked forward to wearing it, but unfortunately the pink one was not. On the website the colors of the pink design appear to look pink, brown & cream & overall within the design they look quite warm & vibrant colors. However the poncho I've received, although the pink is accurate, the part of the design which looks like warm brown on-line is actually a very dark grey & what looks to be warm cream on-line is actually a very pale grey. This poncho in reality therefore is far darker & almost dull in overall appearance & not as vibrant or warm looking as it is on the website images, which I find disappointing. Despite this, & because it remains a lovely design & came all the way from the US, I thought I'd just keep it & use it as a comforter when relaxing in the house as opposed to wearing it to social occasions as originally intended, so I haven't returned it. I am also quite surprised that the material is so light in weight & not as thick as I'd expected it to be. I've experienced since wearing the pink one that the material, because it is so thin & light-weight, appears to crease very easily & it does not have the weight to immediately rectify itself when one has either been sitting whilst wearing it or when it has been folded. So if anyone might desire to wear one of these ponchos (i.e. the ones made from 50% acrylic & 50% polyester) for social occasions & may desire to achieve a smart/casual look then this feature is not at all helpful because the creases give it an overall untidy look - at least for a while - as it doesn't immediately fall properly because the material is so light-weight & thin. The creases do fall out eventually & without them having to be ironed out so that's good, but the process is not instant. These particular ponchos also seems to cling to other clothing & fabrics because they're not weighty enough to do otherwise, so one is frequently having to adjust them when wearing them as they have a tendency to pull off your shoulders often if the clothing beneath them is not smooth - this too is mainly because of their thin & light-weight fabric. Despite this, they are surprisingly quite warm when worn indoors & for such a weightless material they do feel soft & cosy against the skin which is nice. However, I'm certain they wouldn't save you in a storm or be of much use in too colder weather outdoors because they are simply too light & not chunky enough. From wearing mine over recent weeks they are a moderate comfort in a cool breeze when outdoors but nothing further than that with regard to providing real warmth against the cold. I really do feel that this product is more of a 'visual poncho' by means of a 'fashion item' rather than a practical one that you'd want to hypothetically take out with you on the ranch to keep you warm so to speak. Despite practicalities with regard to warmth, what I'm really struggling with is the amount of lint type fibers that this poncho is constantly shedding. The 50% acrylic & 50% polyester fiber mix is so lovely & soft (but also a tad too light-weight) that it appears to have a desire to attach itself & cling to anything & everything that is not as soft as itself; which unfortunately is most things, including me. Therefore the material rubs & fluffs-up & it is almost impossible to remove the fluff from poncho itself because it appears to cling on for dear life! Yet despite the difficulty in removing the fluff/bobbling from the poncho in order to make it look better, the material somehow appears to shed, and profusely so, minute lint fibers which attach themselves to everything, even to my hands & transferred by touch I'm finding lint fibers in my eyes, in my food etc., & it is becoming quite a problem. I have only washed the poncho once & with great care as per the advice, hung dried etc., so the washing/drying of this material is not the problem. I thought that perhaps I should use more hand cream & believe me I have done so over the last few weeks but sadly the lint fibers stick to that too! Having owned this poncho for a little less than 2 months now, it has fluffed-up excessively & it sadly looks like old cloths already which is a great shame, primarily because I actually like wearing it! I am sad to say that the fluffing-up of this poncho is not a good look & I am unable to combat this in any other way than to carefully 'shave' the material, which is extremely time consuming given the large surface area of both sides of this poncho. It took ages to complete just a small section & totally ruined 3 bic razors - not that I'm bothered about the razors as I was more concerned about the effort & time that I had to put into this process. The section that I did looked good but because I only did this the other day, I have yet to discover whether it will continue to fluff-up further. If anyone has any better ideas or solutions to this problem then I would find these most welcome, as I will not be wearing this particular poncho at the moment given its current state & until I complete the task.... I ran out of razors so have ordered more. I must clarify that the shedding of lint fibers commenced from the get-go & well before I even thought of shaving the material because of the fluffing-up of the fabric, so that's not the problem with regard to material shedding lint. I still have no idea how to overcome this issue which is really frustrating. I find this all rather distressing given that these ponchos cost £37 each & were purchased less that two months ago. I was intending to purchase the blue & mustard colored poncho from the same Amazon US website as it looks beautiful online but given that it's made from the same material, although I love the look of it most dearly & I am tempted, I simply can't bring myself to possibly invest a further £37 to purchase another one. The fact that I was actually looking forward to purchasing another one makes my disappointment all the greater! It's a great shame as I do like ponchos & in particular some of the lovely colourful designs on this particular Amazon US website. The orange poncho, which I've only worn once since purchase attributed most favorable comments from various people on that occasion which was lovely. However, having only worn it once it has yet to take on its own life of fluffing-up & shedding lint fibers akin to it's pink relative, & although I somehow feel a great desire to wear it again & even often, given how the pink one has reacted & in such a short period of time, I feel almost reluctant to wear the orange one! I keep having to remind myself that cloths are meant to be enjoyed, especially when they cost £37 a pop. I shall therefore persevere with both in the hope that a couple of careful shaves, as & when required, & a few more washes will solve both the shedding lint fibers & the fluffing-up issues. I shall write a further review in a few months time to share how it all turns out. In respect of other potential buyers I wish you all the very best of luck & if you can overlook the more frustrating aspects of the material then these ponchos are a lovely fashion item, but please expect to have to invest in quite a few 'bic razors', perhaps some eye-drops, & please be careful when swallowing your food..... with potentially a few unwelcome fibers in it. I shall give this product a 3 star review because these ponchos are beautiful designs & when they look good they do look good; all be this brief due to the rubbing-up of the material. I've deducted 1 star because of the color mishap in respect of the pink poncho & for sheer disappointment value, & a further star because of the problematic & high maintenance material; one really shouldn't have to make such an effort in order to keep a item of clothing looking good within a mere two months of purchase. These ponchos could have achieved 5 stars easily if a better quality, slightly heavier, & a more sustainable material has been used. I wish you all well. Posted by Julie in the UK.
