The metal needle is much too thick and is utterly worthless. The needle for threading the rawhide laces should be far, far narrower and very sharply pointed at one end. I will see what I might be able to do with a thin nail which I will sharpen at the end. The laces are o'k but do not match the rawhide laces on my Timberland boat shoes.

This leather lace kit is absolutely perfect. My dog ate the lace out of my Minnetonka moccasins, and I was able to replace it with this kit. The needle that comes with it screws onto the tip of the leather. You have to rotate it on there many times, but it does make a good strong connection. Very helpful for threading through the eyelets.

An excellent purchase and well worth the money. The leather laces on my boat shoes are prone to snapping every so often. As my local shoerepairer has now retired - and other repair shops are unable or unwilling to help - I will need to replace the laces myself. This repair kit is a godsend and very easy to use. With a bit of effort and judicious fiddling it is a straightforward process to relace your boat shoes. I highly recommend this product.

As far as leather shoelaces go, it does exactly what it's supposed to do.

I have a motorcycle riding jacket with leather adjustable laces on each side the laces were poor after 25 years so I replaced them with these much better than the originals and the jacket fits better.
