Why can't you keep them in the freezer for more than four hours?

Bad English? I think they mean something like..."Just place in freezer upside down and in less than 4 hours they will be frozen throughly and ready for use". You can leave them in the freezer forever if you wish.

Can you store these mugs in the freezer for use anytime?

I have had no problem doing that. Due to some of the reviews I saw, I figured that maybe going from room temperature into the freezer might be the problem, so when I wash them by hand, I put them in the fridge, and when I take one out of the freezer, I replace one from the fridge. But they stay in the freezer for a day or two sometimes. They do break when dropped on the floor. Even when dropped on the floor I've never had a handle fall off. One of them had a hairline crack after I dropped it on the floor. I didn't see it, so put a soda in it. The soda leaked into the crack and discolored the gel. So threw that one away. I just love these. The best frosty tumblers I've found.

Both of my freezers run at about -18c (0f), but the information says do not freeze below -10c (14f). what damage will occur at the lower temp?

I've been using these for about 5 years and eventually they split open from constant freeze thawing after about a year so I just buy more of them.
