Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - PlayStation

Symphony is hands down one of the best games available for PSX. It is certainly the game I enjoyed the most for the PSX and it has some very tough competition on this system.The game itself is huge and hides many secrets. From spells to equipment, there are hidden little bits everywhere. The game twice as big you would think it is as there are two castles to explore.I have personally fully completed the game (got and did everything) three times and have beaten it several more times. One full completion was done on the Japanese Saturn which I had purchased specifically to play the Japanese version of this game.This game ranks in the top five greatest games I've ever had the honor to play.Some may complain about it not being a traditional Castlevania game and trust me, it isn't. This is NOT a bad thing. I have been playing Castlevania since before the release of Dracula's Curse (NES) and I have played every release of the series since and I believe this title resurrected a dying and tired series.Symphony is also very user friendly, I wide variety of weapons and play styles are represented here. The control is flawless and can be customized.Voice acting is terrible. There isn't a whip to be found, anywhere. Thats it for the negative.So grab your library card and teleport into one of the greatest games in the history of gaming.

I recommend this game to anyone of any age. Although it has some nudity / blood, I think it's tame enough and reminiscent of the original era that it's more education than anything for youngsters under 10. The music is probably one of the major perks. I've downloaded and listened to the music on MP3 players driving around because it's THAT good. The gameplay is simple as can be: sidescroller, jump, attack, item, and magic. There are literally hundreds of weapons, armor, etc items to find, it's amazing what some of the more rare special weaps do. The game itself is pretty long too, once you beat it, you beat it again upside down and all monsters/music/items are changed to reflect your stronger levels.Anyway, there's lots and lots to describe of how awesome this game is. If you've never played it, I pity you.

This is a true classic. Should you be one of the rare few of humanity who has not played this and have the ability to do so.. then do it. This is a living masterpiece and the pinnacle of 2d platform gaming. If 100000 stars existed this would get the title. As far as the cd goes, zero scratches worked flawlessly. Packaged well and arrived on time. Very happy

PROS:- Came with manual, original case, game- Game works- Manual isn't ripped in anyway and no broken pieces on the case from brief examinationCONS:- Case does NOT latch when closed so if grabbed the wrong way it can fly open.- Definitely wasn't cleaned before it was sent out, small dirt marks and bits of grime around the case on the disc.Game worked on first startup. Description matched what it came with which is a plus, though the case problem is a little irritating due to how loose it is. 4/5

I played through a few titles this winter and was left overly disappointed with the gameplay and lack of depth. I did play Ori and the Blind Forest and I was left craving more 2D action. I decided to give this a shot since I never gave it a chance back in the day. I thought at the time that 2D was on its way out and 3D was the new "thing", so I never bought it. Big mistake. This game is still amazing although the graphics are a bit dated. There are some small problems with it, but nothing major. I recommend to anyone craving simple, 2D action.

Exploration. Gothic Theme. Power-Ups. Great Music. Perfect Pacing. lots of Items. Huge variety of Enemies. Secret Areas. Well made puzzles.I really love the ambiance of this game. From the very start this world is just dripping with grit. The boss fights aren't too tough, but if you're like me you like feeling overpowered. Additionally, this game has several play modes. I don't want to spoil anything, but you can play as people other than Alucard. Or as a modified Alucard ;)MUST MUST MUST BUY! That is if you like Castlevania games...

The case and manual are in great condition. The game is not. It lags sometimes and sometimes the screen gets pixalated. I wasn't really expecting much for a $15 game in "acceptable" condition but for the pixalating screen I'm giving 3 stars.
