Uneven hardness
I found that there were inconsistencies with this steel. Even after normalizing, I could not get a drill bit through some parts but went through others like butter. After finishing a knife blank, and quenched, the file would scate on most of the surface but then dig in to others. That is after normalizing and annealing.

No results after etch in a 132 layer billet.
Doesn’t seem like there was any “N” in this 15N20. The blades turned out hard enough, but the etch revealed nada. I forged two billtes of 132 layer alternating 1095 and 15N20. One billet was this supply and the other was NJ Steel Baron. Etched for 10 minutes in Ferric Chloride. The NJ billet turned out beautifully. Not a hint of layers in this steel.

Not 15n20
I just etched the knife i made from 1095 and this "15n20" and got no noticeable difference between the steel colors. Two layers of 1095 with a "15n20" core, all layers seperated by copper.
