Worked once, then broke - REVISED
Used this item twice, it worked somewhat the first time, the second time the plastic at the bottom which holds the dies in place cracked and broke off, making the whole item uselessREVISED - Having been urged to give this a second try, I purchased another food mill. Product arrived with no visible damage, and I was able to put it together with no problem. We used the largest die on some blueberries for jam, and it worked fine. There were some skins but that was to be expected with that size die.I agree with other reviewers, this might not be the best tool for large batches of food, but only because it is manually cranked. For a small batch canner or jam maker, this product can save you some time and sweat!

Excellent, Affordable Food Mill
I've been growing, making, canning my own food for about a year. I grew up that way, but lost touch with my roots. Anyway, as a semi-new making homemade food person, I was a little worried about the negative reviews I read about this mill. I'd never used one before and didn't really know what to look for in a review. Complaints about the design and having to scrape and fiddle with it made me a smidget nervous.I've come to the conclusion that those reviewers were drunk when they tried to use the mill. It's the only plausible explanation. This is awesome. It's easy to put together even without instructions. The blade only fits one way. Once together, it is very sturdy. The ridged grippers fit every pan I used, and I used a lot. Towards the end of the night, when I was really tired because I had under-estimated the amount of time it would take to boil and mill 2 bushels of apples, I shoved the bowl as full as possible with apples fully expecting it to clog or not work so I could give up and go to bed. It didn't. It plowed right through it, which actually torked me off a little because I could have saved a lot of time just doing that from the beginning.Towards the end of milling a batch, I scraped the mush into the path of the blade to squeeze every bit of applesauce out. Once the stabilizing bar is in place, the entire unit stays together in one piece, even upside down in the sink to rinse the seeds and skins off the blade. It took some effort to mill the apples, to scrape the sides into the blade, to rinse off the blade when it needed it, but most homemade things do take a little elbow grease. Lucky for us, this mill makes that effort fun, and faster, and way easier.I'm very happy with this purchase, and even if it conked out in a year of use, I'd buy another.

Good but broke after two years.
Cooks Illustrated recommended this food mill.Pros:Worked well for mashed potatoesGood value initiallyCons:Not so easy to disassemble for cleaning because of strong tension on spring. After 2 years, plastic holding the blade in tension snapped off, ending it's useful life.Though it did break after 2 years, expected it to. But I wanted an inexpensive but good food mill to figure out if I even liked this tool and if it was worth it for more perfect mashed potatoes. It worked well, but took up more room and was a bit more difficult to clean (just for mashed potatoes) than I wanted. After it broke, I switched to their ricer and am happy with that as it's better for the small amount of mashed potatoes we make.

Good Food Mill
Arrived on time and as expected. I bought this in part because it was among the least expensive, and in part based on Cook's Illustrated review. I am used to an old Foley Food Mill inherited from my Mother in Law. This lacks the sweep bar on the underside that the Foley had, and seems slight less efficient in pushing the food through, as in there seems to be more residue inside after finishing, but those are the only drawbacks. On the plus side, it much easier to clean, it has 3 different screens, it is much more stable on the bowl or pan and generally functions smoother. I like it and would recommend it, especially for those of less than unlimited means.

The RSVP food mill is an economical and efficient means to pureeing food such as tomatoes, potatoes, and fruit. I started not to get this because it's plastic and history has shown that for me, most of those items wind up in the trash. However, after looking at the prices on the other brands and reading a review somewhere about another plastic food mill that's very similar to this one, I decided to get it.Even though it's plastic, it's pretty durable and can sit on top of a hot pot. Some may not like it because the feet are not adjustable, but there are enough notches on the legs to accommodate a variety of pot or bowl sizes. It's obviously not intended for huge pots or mixing bowls. I use it over a pot that's about 8" across the top.The mill comes with 3 stainless steel blades. The description says 18/10. The blades are sturdy and fit snugly in the bowl. The handle has to be pressed into the notches on the side of the bowl using a bit of force, but it doesn't require anything more than a little effort. The food mill is 2.5 quarts, which is enough for my needs. I cut up and cooked about 6 medium sized red potatoes, drained them and put them all into the food mill. It was a little to full, but after a few turns that problem was solved. I used the coarse blade and processed all of the potatoes in a few minutes. Since I didn't peel the potatoes, I had to scrape the blade off once to move the peel out of the way. The mill did a great job, and I was satisfied with the results.

Good food mill.. Overall, I liked it.
I used this yesterday for the first time to make applesauce with the medium blade.I did a comparison below with my old Foley mill which I have had for years and is starting to rust and not be as sharp as before..#1) I had a bit of trouble to insert the blade and then to remove it afterwards to clean it as you need to apply quite a bit of pressure to the crossbar to hook it in and out. The Foley only has 1 medium blade so no need to insert and remove the blade#2) It does do a better job of straining than my old Foley so I completed the straining quicker.#3) But there is no wire across the bottom to help the strained food fall into the container underneath like the Foley mill has. This means you have to scrape the strained food off the bottom yourself.#4) The parts are plastic and stainless steel so easier to wash and should not rust.#5) This mill does balance nicely on the bowl and has multiple teeth at different widths so could use many different sized containers under it. Better than the 2 hooks on the Foley which only fit a few different sized bowls.

Great Basic Food Mill.
I got this specifically to make mashed potatoes. Perfect!Straddles most pans and is fairly easy to use. Cleanup is a bit of a chore, it needs to be disassembled before putting into a dishwasher. The finer screens are for tomatoes I guess the coarser ones for applesauce & turnips, potatoes...etcIf you don't need to use a food mill a lot this mill would be perfect.

had one of these when I was younger with my grandmother
I knew this product was a bit smaller than what I used when I was a young child but it worked really well! Great for mashed potatoes!

Rotary Food Mill
I bought it for a Christmas gift. It looks like a nice one to get the veggies mushed and grated.
