Great addition, but was unaware that you needed other extension prior to using this. This game can be tricky as the instructions take a while to understand the full concept. Plan for over an hour of game play! Best if played with at least 4 players.

This expansion maybe be a little confusing at first, so less experienced gamers may need to be comfortable with base game and base game+ crossroads. Like that festivals add more randomness so it is not as easy to strategize a win. Also can’t always tell who is winning 1/2-way thru game with these little events thrown in the mix

Incredibly fun addition to the base game.

I had the figurines for this expansion (and Crossroads) so I bought this to be able to use the figures. I enjoy the festivals at each inn, and playing the new characters. There are some cardboard tokens that are only used for a single festival (one for girl characters and one for male). These seem to be more trouble than they are worth and are almost never in play. There is also some chits for points earned that are not on cards. Makes sense but almost too much bother for the "problem": they solve. Otherwise, GREAT!

So don't get me wrong, we love the expansion, but we are really limited on what we can use from it because we didn't know you needed the Crossroads expansion to use a lot of the cards and features. When I say a lot, I do mean a lot. So many of the characters have features that only work with the Crossroads pieces and some of the major changes that are made by certain cards have almost no effect because they need the Crossroads additions. This meant pairing back quite a bit of Matsuri to use it. Perhaps we will get the Crossroads expansion at some point, but we were a bit disappointed to find this out only after we had received it. It should be in the game description very clearly stated next to the part that lists the need for the original game to play.

These figures are very fragile. Expect a few to need hands glued back on immediately.

FYI: The base game is lovely, but when I received this expansion pack it noted that you must have the CrossRoads expansion pack also, in addition to the initial board game, in order to use Matsuri expansion. The CrossRoads expansion pack is out of stock everywhere I could find and can only be purchased on Ebay at a cost of $70, plus shipping as of today...
