Excellent, versatile and easy to use baby gate.
We are extremely pleased with the Guard Me baby gate by Baby Dan. It was easy to fit to the top of our stairs and is very versatile in terms of where it can be fitted (inside and outside of a door frame / top and bottom of the stairs). Furthermore, extensions are available at an extra cost but we did not require extra extensions as it already comes with three extensions in the box! These are easy to fit using a “key”.The instruction manual is pretty simple if you know the type of fitting you require. Alternatively an online installation video is available at www.babydan.comThe gate itself is self-retractable and neatly folds to one side. To open there is a secure mechanism to ensure safety. Just pull back the button and push down. Easy. It looks far better than the alternatives out there and it’s not clunky due to its design. The gate is very secure once in place and no issues with entrapment between bars. Furthermore, no worries about tripping over a bottom bar!A great design, easy to fit and use. Highly recommended.

Fantastic!
We couldn't be happier with our BabyDan stair gate! It's not only incredibly functional but also stylish and unobtrusive. The design is sleek and attractive, blending well with our home decor. One of the standout features is that it creates no trip hazard at the top of the stairs, which is a huge plus for safety. It folds neatly to the side when not in use, making it easy to navigate without getting in the way. We also got one for the bottom of the stairs, and it's been just as great—easy to install, sturdy, and baby-proof. Overall, it gives us peace of mind while looking good in our home. Highly recommend!

Buy it!!
Amazing gate!! Dog doesn’t try to jump this because it’s not straight across. The lock on the gate is good, it seems very sturdy. Nothing to step over when gate is open with this design!! Brilliant!! I’m hoping it will last years to come. Super happy with purchase.

My opinion of this is divided, depending on where you are planning on using it.I bought this to use on the stairs, because I didn't like the idea of having a gate with a bar along the bottom (trip hazard), but on receiving and checking the instructions, realised it doesn't come with any fixings for brickwork/plasterboard. In fact, if you're not using in a door frame, they recommend you fix a wooden baton to the wall before screwing in the gate - something that isn't clear from the product description or photos. I wasn't particularly happy with that and have since decided to get a pressure-mounted gate for the bottom of the stairs and am using this in a door frame instead. For the price I was pretty disappointed by that. The gate came mostly assembled, with additional sections that could be added if being used across a wide space. It was so easy to add new sections or remove them - the gate comes with a little clip that allows you to quickly slide out unnecessary sections, and additional sections just slide straight in and click once secure. The same clip is used to measure where to screw in the two sides - you rest the bottom of the side fixing on the clip, screw it in then slide the clip out and repeat for the other side. Then you just screw the centre part in, clip it into place and go. REALLY easy to fit, so long as you're fitting it to a doorframe.Once fitted, the gate can be opened and closed with one hand - easily, unlike some of the pressure-mounted gates I've tried. You use your thumb to pull out the white tab, the same thumb to push down the clip, then use the handle to open. It retracts automatically and folds up against the wall, so is great if you don't need it all the time. I was considering an auto-close gate, but this is so much more convenient - when baby is in bed or in another room, I don't have to faff opening the gate all the time.It would be really handy to use in awkward spaces too, where you're stuck with dodgy angles or wider-than-average openings, because you can practically close it around a corner thanks to the concertina-style gate.I would NOT recommend this be used at the top of the stairs. Most HVs recommend against this anyway, because they prove more dangerous than beneficial, and recommend you use a gate on your child's bedroom instead, but this could be even worse than a normal gate. Because of the concertina design, there is a risk of baby being able to push the gate out and slide underneath the gap. The instructions show that you should have the gate taught at the top of the stairs, but it is INCREDIBLY difficult to close when pulled taught as it gets very stiff. I struggled to close it with two hands, and ended up loosening it.The instructions could be better - they try to be like IKEA instructions, without any words, but they also try to be concise which lead to me being a little confused about a few things. I figured it out in the end but the instructions could definitely be more cohesive.I do think the gate deserves four stars despite my issues - it's so different to anything else out there and the design is fantastic. So long as you're using it in doorways it's fabulous. I'd imagine it would be fine at the bottom of the stairs too, so long as you're confident about drilling into your walls securely. I wouldn't recommend this at the top of the stairs though, under any circumstances. If you need to use it to protect your child from falling down the stairs and don't want it on their bedroom door for whatever reason, you would be MUCH better off installing it a little way away from the stairs, maybe across the landing instead.Definitely worth the price, although I did get this on sale for about £27 - it's just so much more convenient, attractive and versatile than other gates.
