Fast and good quality
Only had this a short time now, but was easy to set up and get running. The speed and quality of the printing is very good. I really like the fact that the inks are individual, makes a lot cheaper especially if you are using one colour a lot more than others. I got instant ink as well and that is great never running out of ink as they supply before you run out. The only con some people may find with this unit is the size and the amount of space it actually occupies is pretty large, just make sure you have the room for it before buying. Otherwise overall a great all in one product

Excellent piece of kit
A lovely printer, easy to set up and does what it should. Very fast. It remains to be seen if the paper handling lasts - HP has a reputation for failure on this front but I really hope it runs for some considerable time. As always, genuine HP inks do not come cheap for this machine, really not sure what to do on this matter, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it but for now I am well pleased.

Impressed so far. Great features and good print quality.
I've had the 8720 for a few weeks now and so far, the performance has been excellent. The printer has a fairly large footprint and will take up a good portion of a desk or small table. It's also tall and has a lid that opens so make sure you don't squeeze it into a tight space. The set-up process is not all that straightforward. You will need to have the printer connected to the Internet and your computer standing by. Once the printer does it's initial configuration, you need to be on-line and connected to the HP site (and the printer) in order to finish the set-up. You can also perform the basic set-up using the HP Smart app on your mobile device. The printer works best over wi-fi. In fact, if you have it connected to an Ethernet cable, wi-fi doesn't work. If you have a hidden SSID, you will have to un-hide it temporally so that the printer can see it and connect. For the more technically inclined, there are LOADS of configuration options; I spent the better part of an afternoon tweaking and customising things. I find this fun but it's not everyone's cup of tea. However, the complexity is a reflection on the fact that the 8720 is designed for a home-office and personally I like the level of control you can have over pretty much everything the printer can do. And this printer can do lots. One of the main reasons I purchased the 8720 was to AirPrint from my iOS devices; this works very well. Scanning to e-mail took a bit of set-up but it's working now. I haven't tested the scan to folder option or the USB print.A few things to note: I attempted to enable the in-built firewall but that caused all my connections to the printer to drop. I played around with the settings but never really got it working to my satisfaction. Secondly, the printer has the ability to receive print jobs via e-mail. You can customise the e-mail address and restrict the allowed senders to approved addresses so random people can't send print-jobs to your printer. However, getting the print from e-mail to actually work is pretty hit-or-miss. It will work for a few prints and then, from the same e-mail address and same device, it will stop printing. You still get a conformation e-mail saying that the job has been accepted but nothing comes out. After I purchased the printer, I signed-up for HP's Instant Ink. One of the annoyances of my last printer was that it liked to suddenly run out of ink at the worst possible moments. The 8720 phones-home to HP when the ink is getting low and they send you a new set of ink cartages. There are different pricing levels based on your usage and they all seem like a great deal when compared to purchasing ink cartages outright. One minor issue: the HP software keeps popping up with warnings on my screen telling me that the cartages installed are not genuine HP ones. This is not true. I eventually found a way to turn off those messages.Lastly, and this has to do with Amazon and not HP. After I purchased my printer, a friend informed me that HP was offering both an £80 rebate and a free 3-year warranty on the 8720: neither of which appeared on the Amazon site. Other retailers prominently displayed the rebate and warranty info but not Amazon. Thankfully I found all this out in time and applied on-line via HP but be aware that you should shop around and check the HP site to make sure you are getting everything you are entitled to.

Big, Bold and Powerful
Great printer, easy to use and has everything, Big- but has a great feeder links directly to google docs- so I can scan directly to gsuite /google docs. Great feeder- shows videos of what to do when you have a jam etc. Not sure on the cost of running as good as my old laser a little noisier. I would recommend.

Rip off and horrendous ink service
Nightmare 3 hrs and reset and still can't use new printer because the ink is empty. Complete printer cessation for 10 days now waiting for first new ink even though I have out genuine new in which I bought with my printer - because the other cartridge is empty now, even though I'm only printing in black and that is new and full!!!!! And then, keen to try instant ink I find if I ever go over my limit, I do get my order (of discount !!!instant ink early) early but pay punitive charges BY THE PAGE until end of calendar month. Mobile phone style penalties is not a business model you should be aspiring too HP. If I print more - you make more and I wear out my printer quicker - why are signed up regular customers I penalised with extortionate pay per page charges??? Hardly family friendly!!! Will not EVER buy a HP printer again and if at all poss - this is going back! Which is a shame cos printer god although noisey and bigger than led to believe. The service and contract is horrendous and stressful with barely pleasurable outcomes even now 'fixed'. Cant print for 10 says now waiting for first delivery but no info on set up to tell you about all this. Diligently sat down to set up instant ink a month later... and even though new genuine ink installed today at considerable cost printer is rendered useless. I'ma a small business. CHAT with a help robot was loopy, literally, and HP diagnoses of problems awful, then instagram chat gave up. 3+ hours down the pan incl 1 hr with customer services and now have to redo all settings etc due to need to reset just to register account which was already registered and needed a claim code the sign in process never asked for. HP are not living in the real world. Typed to you on my last HP laptop too!

I don't know why anyone would not rate this 5/5
Everything about this printer is fantastic. Easy to setup, print from phone/mac/pc without any real installation. The price is also phenomenal and prints extremely quick with a lot of options. The -only- downside is if you are not experienced with technology then it might be confusing for a few. However, on the scale of 'difficult to install' products this is one of the easiest out there. The other downside is the size - it is very large. But these are not downsides at all as there is no small printer out there that has the performance required for quick printing and reliability as this does. The 4/5 is baffling to me, and reading the low reviews, I feel bad for HP as none of these can be addressed due to printers being inherently not plug and play in 5 seconds. I am not sure why people expect this either, to be honest.
