A Perfectly Solid Home / Office Working Phone + Extension Advice
Starting a new home / office working job I was unsure what telephone would suit my needs. I mainly needed a phone with an RJ11 port for headset connectivity. My employer suggested a decent site with a wide range of suitable equipment (pmctelecom.co.uk) but to be honest I found the prices unreasonable compared to the similarly priced products here on amazon. Long story short, the BT Converse 2100 proved to be the best choice out of 20 others phones in terms of price-point & stability and as such I am happy to say I have not been disappointed with this purchase at all. This phone has a very solid and sturdy feel. Admittedly it has a somewhat limited feature range that (in my case) turned out for the best. Ironically the company software I use with this phone does all the glitzy stuff other higher priced phones come built with, such as call forwarding, address booking, secrecy, etc. If you are looking for a simple and sturdy office / home telephone look no further. This phone does exactly what it says on the tin with zero hassle and no fuss Extension Cord Advice --- Also as a tip I just wanted to add I actually needed this phone installed across a room due to the location of my supplier phone box. As a result I also bought a 10 meter extension cord thinking everything would work out fine. Sadly, I ignorantly failed to understand that there are different types of cord, for example there are 2 pin, 4 pin, straight wired and cross wired cables. Unbeknownst to me my first cable was a two pin cross wired extension that failed to work with the BT 2100. Looking through the 2100's manual did not help illuminate me to the correct configuration and only by looking at the 2100's original short cable I could see four gold copper pins and then had to take a guess as to if it would be a straight or cross wired cable. So finally after wasting about £15 on extensions that did not work I can confirm for this phone you will need a 4-pin straight wired cable for extension purposes. After knowing this eBay had a wide range of them on the cheap and everything is now working all fine and dandy. I hope that lil tid-bit of info helps out someone who may be in a similar predicament.

Excellent phone could have been even better
The phone is great, looks great, build quality is good, clarity top notch, speaker phone works very well. Phone book is easy to use and numbers and names are easy to add. There is a strip down the side with a label that you can write extensions or names on to and you have 10 hot dial buttons which is really handy It will take an RJ11 style headset connector, it has a privacy button which is cool, if you`ve got someone on loudspeaker, or on the handset you press it and they can`t hear anything, the secrecy button also flashes a nice orange colour when activated, the handsfree button has a nice solid green light. Overall very pleased with the phone, the one disappointment to me is the screen, its just plain old black dots, I feel the description "backlit" is some what of an exaggeration, I work in my loft and the screen is very dark indeed, pity a nicely backlit screen would have topped this phone off a treat, the other small gripe i have is the the screen can`t be angled so sitting where i am it does cut off the date text BUT having said that I`m glad I bought it, its good value for money and has a great build quality, if the other 2 small gripes were fixed I would be rating 5 stars

Excellent sturdy easy to use landline corded speakerphone
This replaced a recently purchased similar model. The other model had required batteries and broke within a few months. I specifically wanted this one as it requires no batteries (like my other very long standing and very good landline). So there is much less scope for it to break and I am very happy without a caller number showing. The phone is lovely to handle, sturdy and substantial and easy for me to use on long business calls (it tucks well under the chin so I can type notes as I do when I do not want speakerphone on). The speakerphone function seems to work well (although I do not often need that so not given it much of a test). Nor have I used the headset function as I do not like head sets. It plugged in fine exactly where the previous phone did. I wanted one that plugged into the electricity in the wall like the old one (not one to run off the computer or USB port function compulsory) and it does indeed plug in like the last one and the cable to the telephone landline socket similarly simply replaced what I had before in seconds. I went for black as my previous white phones got dirty quickly. I have not tried to attach it to the wall but it came with screws to do so for those who might want that. A good landline home or business phone all round in my view. Another advantage of tihs over the shortlived one which needed batteries is I can take it off the hook when I go out without its causing loads of interference with the PC and awful noises. As this one has no batteries inside it does not have that effect. Much better all round and a lovely easy to use sturdy handset too.

Sturdy, high quality phone
This BT Converse 2300 phone is just what I was looking for. It is a quality product, sturdy (I've dropped it several times already) and it looks good too. Thoroughly recommend it. Pros: Sound is crystal clear Buttons are nice and big Comfortable to hold The screen display is very readable Functions are intuitive & easy to work out Can store your 10 favourite numbers and access each with its own button (*very* useful) Keeps working when the power goes off (tested and true) Cons: Not really a 'con', more an observation: I'm one of those people who tend to hold the handset low down near the microphone end and a few times I've covered the microphone hole with a finger. It's because they've done away with a raised mouthpiece, presumably for aesthetic reasons. Like I said, not a complaint, more an operating observation (and easily rectified!).

Sturdy phone (with quite chunky buttons)
Quite sturdy (so it's not easily knocked over) but not too heavy. The connecting line you get (with it) is nice and long. Also, the quick dial buttons are simple to set-up and use.

An excellent phone
I have not had very much luck with office phones over recent years finding that either the reception wasn't great or that the quality of conference calling was erratic. Well, cross fingers and touch wood, so far the BT Converse 2300 has performed perfectly. It doesn't take up much space on the desk; the plinth means it's easy to read the display and dial, quality of calls have been very good (no crackling or fuzziness) and conference calls have been successful for all participants (quality of sound, no cut-outs and so on). It was easy to set up and the operation is pretty straightforward. In fact the only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that it's only been a few weeks since I got it. The 5 star proof will be over time but so far so good.

Useless Junk Bought from Valutech - NEVER AGAIN
I work from home so I bought this phone a few months ago purely for work purposes and I barely used it because I was away on business trips for the whole summer and when I was not using it for work, we unplugged it not to give a chance to any sales people to harass us.So the phone started playing up pretty much straight away but unfortunately, with my upcoming business trips I did not have time to sort it out. Initially, there was a loose connection in the wire that connects the receiver to the phone so every now and then people would just all over a sudden disappear on me in the middle of a conversation - they were there, of course, at all times, it's just that I couldn't hear them anymore so I had to fiddle with the wire to bring them back (I actually called BT to double check that there is no problem on the line, so it was definitely the phone). But yesterday another part of the phone gave up so it became completely unusable. Now if you put the receiver down, when you lift it up again there is no signal and I have to shake the phone a few times to bring it back to life. This is completely ridiculous and it means that now nobody can call me because every time I put the receiver down the phone just goes dead! I asked Valutech for refund which they refused and instead offered me to pay them again to fix it! I find this a very bad customer service because they sold me a faulty item to begin with and now they are suggesting that I should pay them more for the privilege of not having my phone for a couple of weeks while they are fiddling with it, effectively depriving me of my earnings in the meantime (as I said before, I use this phone purely for work and the nature of my work doesn't permit me to use my mobile or Skype). I have now bought a new phone and I will be avoiding buying anything else from Valutech in future.

Converse 2300
Good looking phone with all the right buttons - but it's not perfect. There is a background hum, although this is mild and you soon forget this. It is probably caused by the power supply ; not sure why not battery powered. The volume is disappointing ; ok - but not sure why this couldn't have a louder option. The 'Amplify' button doesn't seem to do anything. I use a headset with this occasionally, in fact that's why a bought this phone (for the RJ11 connection). This works well, with easy selection from speaker to headset and mute. I had to send the first unit back, as the LCD characters walked off to the left over a few days, so it became unusable without resetting. Generally pleased...but it could so easily have been perfect.
