Yes. The unit comes with a 12V charger which you plug into your house mains circuit and then into the jack on the unit. It's easy and simple. The unit will charge up quickly (and certainly overnight) and will retain the charge in the boot of your car, if required, for long enough to do multiple starts. (weeks)

I bought this for my 2.5 Porsche Boxster and it works perfectly well. This was recommended to me by an AA patrol chap - after several AA call outs just to jump start the car (I dont drive it very often). I think it would easily start a 3+ltr engine. Hope this answers your question.

No, you can ONLY start the engine by connecting the thick cables to the battery and earth, not via the lighter socket.They supply a cable (you can see one in their picture, next to the mains charger) that connects the charger-in socket on the Jump Start to a lighter socket, but that just lets you recharge the Jump Start in the car. You can't start the engine by connecting to the lighter socket.Andy.
