A Dozen A Day: Pre-Practice Technical Exercises For The Piano [Book 2 Elementary]

Nice collection of warmup exercises
Handy warmup excercises that are within the ABRSM Grade 2-4 range - and a bit more exicting than just doing scales. They're also all in C-major so you can try transposing them into another key for an extra challenge.

A Dozen A day: Very helpful.
This book is helpful to anyone of any age who wants to learn the piano properly. I am an older lady who does go to piano lessons and this book was recommended by my teacher. The exercises increase flexibility, and I am building up to learning the first group. Although it has the drawing of a child on the front, and the titles of the exercises sound childish, in fact they are not simplistic and the titles give a good impression of how the exercises should be played, with a bit of imagination.

) My Tutor recommended these books
I am a very late beginner at the piano (born before the war ie Me not my piano!) My Tutor recommended these books, written for children,. to help the process of unstiffening my rather aging fingers and they really do work. I have just played The Can-Can from my course book at something like the "Moulin Rouge" speed. If you're a late starter, of any age, I recommend them. I'm sure they will also appeal to children ( I was one once). Its nothing to do with this review but I'd like to add that I'm really enjoying leaning the piano and that the authors of tutors like this have really made me a new man. Why don't you try?

Timeless and still fun
This series might be "vintage" but it is still popular because it is a simple and highly effective concept. Each exercise teaches a particular technique, and to help in understanding the effect aimed for, it relates to a physical exercise with cute stick figures carrying them out. So at its simplest, "Hopping" is an exercise in staccato playing, "Rolling" is for legato. As you progress through the series, the same "physical" exercises pop up in the guise of ever more difficult keyboard exercises. It's witty and fun.

Excellent
This is the second book in the piano exercise series and like the first one it is spot on. If you are learning to play the piano I can think of no better exercise series than these. Playing the exercises each day before moving onto your piano pieces is great for flexing and warming up those fingers.

Highly recommended
I absolutely love this series of books. I learnt from them as a child many moons ago and now my own pupils are learning from them too. The exercises are fun and effective. The little stick people don't seem to have dated one bit!
