I like that you do not have to touch and the proximity is pretty perfect. I do wish the light could be controlled separately, but otherwise very happy with this. Looks great as well.

Puchased two and they both died after a couple of months.

For a whole hand I measured about 6-7 cm for the sensitive range. For a white sheet of paper (highly reflective) I measured about 11 cm. Even so, the switch works fine, as long as you’re close enough. I’d say the maximum distance on my sample, to be reliable for a wave of the hand, was about 5 cm.It appears that the device is sending out an IR light beam, and looking for a reflection back. A very dark black surface with a matte finish does not trigger the switch.*** Electrical TestsThis switch consumes significant power from the 12-24 V supply (red and black wire). It makes sense: the IR sensor needs power, and the visible lights ringing the button (always on, blue or green, depending on state of the switch) need power to light up. However there is a relay inside as well (educated guess - I can hear it clicking on and off), and when the switch is triggered, power consumption approximately doubles.Measured current consumption on my one unit:12 V (off) - 25 mA12 V (on) - 48 mA24 V (off) - 25 mA24 V (on) - 48 mAThe relay is rated 3 A. I didn’t push it further than that, but confirmed that 3 A is able to be switched with no apparent problems.The switch on resistance (normally closed contacts, yellow and white wires, switch not triggered) measured by running 3 A through the switch, and measuring the voltage across it, was 78 mΩ (milli-Ohms); that is, 0.234 V across the switch with 3 A flowing through. This includes lead wire resistance.
