Only for those versed in statistics
There is a wealth of information in this book, but unless you have studied statistics you can't get at it beyond the most superficial reading. It needs a "Stats for Flatfeet" (or equivalent) chapter at the beginning, where Hattie abseils down from the lofty heights and simply explains how the diagrams and tables work. We're not proud: spell it out in very short words and we'll be grateful. (Maybe someone more familiar with the humbler lower slopes of the mountain would do it better.)A free "Guide to Visible Learning" pdf is available from the Routledge website, but it doesn't explain the diagrams either. As a working teacher, I really want to learn how to do my job better. I want to know the research findings that recommendations are based on. But as a working teacher, I have limited time - and patience - with indigestible wodges of information. I need a way in.
