Tannoy Eclipse Two Black Oak

The tannoy eclipse 2 is a budget floor standing speaker, which at the offered price of £119 with free delivery is amazing.It is easy to install, literally 4 screws for the plinth and 4 spikes for each speaker then attach the wires from the amp to the terminals.The are well built for the price and sound very clear. Initially they sound bass light, but this quickly resolves as the speaker is used. Yep they sound better with each use and are very very good.They are perfect for an entry level or second system and to be honest flatter most components. I use mine with a vintage quad 33/303 based system in which they replaced old Celestion Ditton 15 speakers. Do I miss the old speakers? Not at all!I have already recommended them to others and if you are in the market for cheap floorstanders give these a try you won’t regret it.

Tempted by the Tannoy reputation, the great price and having owned Tannoy in the past I went for a pair of these speakers. Firstly, the sound is excellent from these slim towers; they definitely need the feet attached for stability but the black vinyl wrap doesn't give a sense of real quality. They're supplied with small speaker spikes and cups to protect wooden floors (which is a nice touch as usually cups have to be purchased separately or coins used) They have an open and smooth detailed sound with no apparent harshness and with just enough bass (for my tastes anyway). They can't be bi-wired as they have only one set of terminals. On first listen they have a nicely balanced sound with a variety of music from rock to classical and don't sound strained at increased levels although they're not run in yet and haven't been pushed too hard. At their original selling price I would have been disappointed as the pretty basic packing consists of each speaker wrapped in a polythene bag with 2 polystyrene end pieces inside the cardboard box doesn't exude quality. The back corner of one of the speakers was very slightly deformed by the pressure of the polystyrene being pushed over the speaker/bag. However, this was minor when the price I paid was taken into account but I did expect more from Tannoy. They haven't had a chance to run in yet so they should sound even better over the next week or so as they loosen up. These are bargains at the £99 price. However, Tannoy lose a star for the pretty average packing that shouts 'budget'

I can't add anything to what other reviewers have said. These are phenomenal speakers for the price. They sound good through the entire sound spectrum. The buyer should be aware they require 24 hours of playing before they are 'run in', though they are excellent out of the box.

Fantastic speakers, which have been truly tested by my new collection of vinyl soundtracks.I am no audiophile, but to my ears (and of course, correctly mated with good quality receiving equipment) these are extremely good value for money.Nothing quite beats blasting out 'Tie Fighter Attack' while making a cup of tea.

Good build quality. Good detail sound and well worth the money

No need for a subwoofer with these. They sound very good. If tested professionally they may find mid tones to be a bit base, but I really like what these sound like.

A big improvement over inbuilt tv speakers. Clarity and balance is good, and they've got enough omph for my relatively small 16sq metre living room. I did struggle with the bass being too boomy initially because my seating position is up against a wall (i can't change this), but plugging the ports with a sponge did an excellent job of reducing it.So although they're not much to look at, for the £100 I paid they are well worth it.
