Amtech P3250 Mortice Gauge

Combination gauge received unusable
On arrival the mortice pins were different heights (2-3mm) so I grabbed a screwdriver to adjust them. The screw holding the end piece sheared just as I started turning it. On further inspection the end piece was attached jammed in at an angle and the sheared screw body wouldn't be coming out soon. Before returning I tried the slide for the lower pin and it jammed part way down the stock. It's disappointing but not unexpected to need to do some tuning on a low price tool but the poor quality material and fitting simply made this one unusable. From previous reviews I believe other people have received usable tools. Unfortunately I didn't. Looks like I'll either hit the car-boots or save up a bit for a decent one.

Mortice Gauge slide needed attention
Most mortice gauges are over-priced. This looks good and feels substantial. The sliding keyway for width adjustment of the chisel width markers was firmly jammed and I have yet to free it. But the conventional marking gauge seems to work fine, and I may just "uninstall" the twin scribes until required. On the whole, seems a resonable buy

The first thing this year I have sent back to ...
The first thing this year I have sent back to Amazon. There was a wood knot on the face of the guide that had been varnished over, and prevented accurate measurement with a ruler. Also, there was a lot of wobble when tightened. Have now purchased a maple mortise guide from another seller, and that is absolutely rigid when tightened.

Buy cheap buy twice.
It's ok if you're not doing any work on wood thicker than 80mm. If you're trying to mark out on thicker wood you will need a different gauge as the design of this prevents being able to centre it on the wood properly.

Item could not be used for marking mortises.
As stated in some other reviews the mortise pins were of different length so was impossible to mark out mortises accurately. Had to return the item and source one elsewhere. Frustrating!

Sounds like this one is a lottery.
Looks great on the picture but the quality is far from good. Some people left good reviews so I have bought one. Mine wouldn't stay locked so I have sent it back. May be OK for hobbyist but it is definitely a tool for precision work.

Badly made!
Very very badly made. The scribing pins have been set wrongly. Unfortunately I am unable to return it as date expired, but I have only just started using it.
