Oxidisation comes from without. It is the process by which oxygen in the air reacts with a metallic element. Rust is iron oxide; verdigris is copper hydroxide; the icing sugar on lead is lead oxide and so on. The polish effectively removes oxidisation. It cannot prevent it. That would be a chemical impossibility if not a physical one.
