Used for building outdoor furniture
It's a lot easier with something to make the drill bit longer.

Compact, durable, and useful!
I love doing some bushcraft when ever I go camping, as it passes the time well and its fun to do! So when I got this hand auger wrench, I was having a bunch of fun with it. It is solid and durable, so I have no reservations on it breaking on me. I have been able to make some fun contraptions with it while camping, and it was fairly easy to do. The tool is sharp and cuts through fairly easily. Great lil tool to have in your camping bag or survival kit. Not to mention, the case it comes it looks fantastic!

Fun to have
Not the sharpest. Makes holes, but consumes energy.I like it.

Both auger and scotch eye work surprisingly well
For my evaluation of this tool, I chose woods that would be challenging. No soft-as-butter green wood allowed. For the auger evaluation, I chose a piece of split walnut firewood, seasoned for many years and bone dry. The auger cut through this with no difficulty, although it did take quite a bit of effort. Five minutes of intermittent auger twisting yielded a nice circular hole nearly 2 inches deep. The auger produced large chips of wood, just as it should.I chose a dead but sound sapling of unknown species for evaluating the scotch eye; the wood was very hard and tough. I thought this would prove challenging to the tool, but the sharp edge of the scotch eye cut through the wood easily when hammered by a substantial piece of firewood, making a 2+ inch length of lovely cylindrical dowel at the end of a longer stick. It was difficult to remove the just-cut dowel from the scotch eye; I had to use the included length of dowel (intended as a handle to turn the auger) as a drift pin, pounding upon it to push the just-cut dowel out of the scotch eye.I pounded the dowel end of the stick into the hole made by the auger. It was a very tight fit, as it should be. I could not twist the stick or remove it; it was solidly attached to the chunk of walnut. This tool worked exactly as it should: using only hand power, it made an excellent dowel-in-hole joint. A chair or stool constructed using such joints would be completely solid. This simple hand tool does exactly what it promises and I recommend it.

Durably made set at a reasonable price
This is a well made hand auger set that makes a great addition to any survival gear collection. The bit and Scotch eye are both razor sharp and appear to be a bit heavier duty than another set I have that costs more. The weld between the two is a little sloppy but it definitely appears to be much thicker and stronger than the weld on my other one and I’ll choose function over form every time when it comes to survival gear. Speaking of function though, it would have been nice if the included drawstring bag was large enough to fit all of the components so you could keep it all together when not in use…you can only fit the handle and the leather wrap (or just the sheathed auger). This isn’t a huge deal since all of my go-gear is kept together in rolling trunks but I like my various gear/tool kits and sets to be individually accessible so the box it came in will have to do for now. Overall though, this is a very well made auger set that gives me a reliable backup for when my other one inevitably breaks.
