If you have even one use for it then buy it - it's a bargain!
When I was at the BBC we had a device called "Tony". It generated a reasonably pure 440Hz sine wave. Took a PP9 battery which needed replacement every few days. This is the modern version of that tester but it's also so much more. The test tone can be switched between 440 and 1k Hz at 3 different levels (+4, -10, -50 dB), it is NOT a pure sine wave but does the job well enough. There is an excellent cable tester which even toggles different LEDs if there is an intermittent connection - ideal for finding intermittent screens. Battery operated (2 x AA) so no hum problems but it would have been nice to have a setting for rechargables and a suitable socket to power them but I am being picky. There are connections for 3.5mm, phono, 1/4inch, XLR, TT and MIDI. Each can be connected to any other with indicator LEDs to show what is wired to what else. Ideal for sound engineers, home recordists etc. In short if you know you will use this for even one job then buy it for the things you haven't thought of! Has 16 led indicators plus two three way switches so comprehensive. What is missing? Well an F connector and Belling Lee might have been helpful for me to check cctv but I made up a couple of adaptor leads. For less than £20 it's an absolute bargain, I wish I had seen it years ago!

It does test Mono TRS - don't let folk tell you otherwise!
I'm afraid the 'review' from MisterMR (top review??) is incorrect. This tester does test 1/4" mono or TS (Tip/Sleeve) cables very well (Guitar cable if you like). So no need for MisterMR to cry out to Behringer to fix this so called problem! There is no problem! You will get an X shape with the LEDs if your TS cable is OK. This is because the ring and sleeve are effectively connected with a mono Tip/Sleeve plug, thus producing the X shape - see photo. This is a real bargain at around £15. It has handled pretty much everything I've thrown at it really well. A selection of what I have successfully tested so far: Mono or TS 1/4" jack to jack (Guitar Cable) - X shape from LEDs Stereo (or Balanced) 1/4" TRS jack to jack Stereo 1/8" jack to jack Mono 1/8" jack to jack - great for Eurorack for example - again the X shape from the LEDs means all is well. XLR to balanced TRS1/4" jack XLR to mono TS jack (home made) XLR to XLR Midi DIN to DIN Phono to phono. Every time it's just a case of reading what is connected to what with the grid of 9 LEDs. The only cables this couldn't test for me were stereo 1/8" jack to split mono 1/4" jack and stereo 1/8" jack to split phono - but I was expecting this, as there can only be one input and one output for each test. The tone generation is really useful too when prodding around in that jack bay and it's great to have the 3 different levels and two frequencies. The tones are emitted from any of the audio outputs. The 2 frequencies are selectable via the reset button. It tests for phantom power too (anything over 9v) on the XLR input. As others have stated, the belt clip supplied seems a little odd and rather flimsy - I won't be screwing that to mine. But that's a minor issue and it's nice they tried! A really useful alternative to sometimes awkward prodding around with a continuity tester when testing cables, and the ability to reset the test results and waggle cables to test for intermittent faults is great. Thoroughly recommended!

The right tool for the job makes all the difference.
A fantastic little device. I have recently been tasked with testing a large selection of various audio cables of several types for my church. The sort of collection that has been amassed over years and nobody knows much of anything about it anymore. Mics, instruments, aux cables, adaptor cables, you name it. This tool has already turned hours of experimentation and guess work into a much shorter timeframe of much better certainty and accuracy. For a small price, this device will make the remaining job much more efficient and be an essential tool in future testing and maintenance. My only complaint is that the manual is not very good. It is very short and does not explain the results well at all. I was fortunate to find a guide that someone had written online that explained what I needed to know. If you are involved with audio work, even minor setups, this is an essential tool. 👍

My hand-made 30 year old cable tester finally gave up the ghost so I bought the Behringer CT-200 makes my life at the theater easy because of all that is packed into this tight little bundle. The Behringer CT-200 is a feature packed cable tester which is a microprocessor controlled device that auto-detects breaks, shorts, phase reversal, open connections and intermittent cables. Detects phantom power as well as having a test tone generator built in that is switchable between +4dB, -10dB and -50dB mic level so you can shoot a signal through a mic preamp for testing. 2 switches for selecting between tone generator and cable tester. TG level selection is the next switch and the obligatory press to reset/option switch is above these 2. Tests: Speakon, XLR-3, 1/4 TRS, USB-A, RCA, 5 pin Din for MIDI and Ethernet cables, LED status screen. Will not test TS 1/4 in cables, I carry a pair of adapters, 1/4 to RCA so that i can test TS (mono) sources through RCA connections; small price to pay for such versatility and ease of use. Tests correctly every time. I use it daily at the theater and have zero issues, it is reliable. I have been using the CT-200 for about 10 months now and am very happy with the device. Idiot-proof operation at a low cost. Will buy again, if necessary.

The CT100 is a lifesaver in my small studio. It quickly checks XLR, TRS, TS, RCA, and MIDI cables, saving me hours of guessing when something isn’t working. Simple to use, reliable, and compact — every home studio should have one.
