This works perfectly, so you really know if your plants in pots or hanging baskets need water or not, and it surprised me just how the lower part of a pot or hanging basket still retains a lot of moisture even when the top of the pot or hanging basket looks very dry so helping to avoid root rot.Don't forget to wipe the tip of the probe each time you test a pot or hanging basket with a tissue or bit of cloth, so you don't get a false reading on the next pot or hanging basket that you test, and it is very easy to use.

A simple little uncomplicated gadget that tells you if your house plants or exterior plants need water or not, not bad if you are unsure.The days are over of having to insert your finger in to the soil is at all necessary.This item consists of a lengthy metal prong with a sensor on the end totalling approximately 7 to 8 inches long with a sealed plastic encased gauge added to the other end.The gauge displays red for dry, green for moist & blue for wet.No batteries needed, however it does look & feel fragile, avoid dropping it & treat it with the utmost care if you expect it to last.You do receive a very thin plastic cover to protect your moisture meter which frankly is pathetic, I’ve been given free plastic carrier bags with more body. Find an alternative sleeve cover you may have knocking around the house or shed with more protection.I wished the build quality was a little more robust considering it’s going to be used in the garden,I’m worried if I come across a hidden stone in the soil it may damage the sensor, perhaps better protection in sensitive areas would be a good way to for the manufacturer to improve on.Nevertheless let’s not distract from the product which is clever & very useful at a reasonable price for anyone who enjoys gardening or house plants, but has to be said fragile.

Looking exactly like the seller's own pictures, I ordered this product based upon the reviews of previous customers on Amazon. I have to say, those customers were right and I'm glad I followed their advice.This is so simple to use I wish I had known about it a long time ago. It isn't easy to judge whether plants really need watering, especially plants grown in pots and tubs. The surface compost might look and feel dry as a bone but half way down it could be waterlogged - and no doubt many of us have lost plants because of overwatering.This little device can put an end to that guesswork. Take a soft cloth or tissue and wipe the end, place it into the compost or soil, and immediately you will get a reading from red (very dry) to blue (very wet). An instant visual aid to know whether you need to water the plant. More than one plant to check? Take the product out of the plant pot, wipe the end again, place it into the next pot to get a reading from there. It only takes seconds (well, minutes if you have a lot of potted plants like I do) but at least you no longer have to guess and at least you are not likely to kill off a plant from overwatering.I am pleased I bought this and have used it numerous times - in fact, it has stopped me watering plants that I thought were dry and so likely saved them. Everyone with potted plants surely needs this product and I like the fact that it gives an immediate reading, unlike some others on the market that have to be left in the soil/compost for a while. Easy to recommend this.

Why did you choose this product over others?:Firstly, DO NOT put this in water. Soil moisture meters are designed to measure the moisture level in soil, NOT in pure water. Doing so can damage it!!I’ve not had any issues with the product and found accurate readings (I also do a finger test to be sure as well). If you’re unsure if the product is still working, it’s best to check some time after (not straight after!) a plant has already been watered. I had to check in on a particular plant today as there’d been issues with the original soil mix and the reading was coming up as I’d expected the day after. That’s not to say something like this will last forever, but it’s helpful for plant beginners like myself get into the swing of the watering process. It may also be helpful for plants that don’t have drainage, which a couple of ours do.

Work well..Great battery life and works for my needs..

Good item worked very well for a considerable amount of time and then the tip disappeared and it stopped working, obviously buried in soil somewhere, now I have to buy another one but it’s worth it cause they’re all good. I just have to hope next time it doesn’t get tangled up in roots Again.
