At its very best in 2021!
I first ordered this product nearly two years ago in 2019. I really enjoyed it as it had good hold and wasn’t greasy. However I didn’t order it again, because it had a strong liquorice smell and the grit easily got under my short nails. I’ve now ordered it again in 2021 and the product has gone from good to great!!! There is no longer a liquorice smell and the wax has more a neutral tea/peppermint smell. It still has very good hold for shaping a beard (though it’s more a balm with wax and hold, as opposed to having the strength of a pure wax), and thankfully Honest Amish has solved the grit under the nails issue! I have Afro hair and would 100% recommend this product. It is dark in texture so may work better with darker coloured hair, however it does dissolve well into the beard. I liked it back then, but I’m a true fan now. Safe to say I’ll be sticking with this product for the foreseeable future.

Only beard wax I use.
I’ve tired loads of beard waxes here in the Uk, I have a very long beard and sensitive skin. Most waxes and oils give me dandruff however this doesn’t. I’m on my third tin now and unless it disappears from the shelves I think this is the one for me. Not greasy, not overly scented and does the job.

Not the best wax, but an amazing scent makes it worth the buy.
I seem to be forever hunting for better beard products and most of them disappoint. This one both disappoints but also please me in an unexpected way. It's not the easiest of waxes to apply, there seems to be little melting when rubbing it between your fingers so I'm not really convinced by the quality. It does have a reasonable amount of effective hold once applied but if I use to much it does leave a bit of a brownish tinge to the grey bits in my beard. It does make an awful mess of your fingers and gets under your nails, I guess it's just the colour stands out so you need to make sure to wash it off fully. So not overly impressed, until it comes to the quality of the scent, it just smells amazing. The best bit is, you can still smell it later in the day, a lovely liquorice smell that lingers and is really pleasant, I think that's the main reason I'm still using it :)

Smells great... but useless
I do love Honest Amish products, but this one just does not work. I bought this to use as a moustache wax but it seems to have zero hold and is no different to using their regular or strong beard balm. Disappointed. And to top it off, it's not eligible for return! The smell isn't an issue like some report though. I can imagine that those who don't like the smell are more used to perfumed products, which this is not. It smells good, a little rustic, but also what you'd expect from a completely natural product. Overall: Not a good buy, would not recommend. Try other waxes!

Lovely smell & Hold!
Absolutely love the smell of this Honest Amish extra grit Beard Wax. Its like an aniseed liquorice smell. The hold of the Wax is very good as well. Could definitely be my go to Beard Wax from now on, I love it 🧔🏻

I'd like to comment on my first impressions with the extra grit before I compare the two. First off, concerning what others have said: -It doesn't leave your beard feeling like there's sand in it. The grit is very fine and I only notice it when rubbing it in my hands. Don't worry about the grit! -it is very dark, so if you have a white beard I wouldn't recommend it. -The smell is strong in the can, but will die down after a little while. I don't think that it smells much like liquorice from the anise, more spicy like clove. As to the smell I like it a lot. The original does have a stronger anise ( liquorice smell) and I like the scent of that one too. -It's very easy to rub into your hands and the beard. I would say softer then the original wax. -now as to hold! Honest Amish says this is on par with the original wax, but I have found it to be slightly lighter than the original. As far as hold goes in the lineup I'd say (lightest to heaviest ) HD beard balm(light), extra grit wax(light/medium ), original wax(medium ). -also, as advertised, it works very well as a hair balm. I have short hair about an inch or so on top and tight on the sides. -Has a matte finish to it, and the original wax has more of a shine. So all in all I like this wax for what it is. Great smell. Doesn't make my beard feel sandy like I thought it would. Light/mid hold(works best with a freshly shampoo'd beard, I know some only shampoo a few time per week). Works in my hair. If I would to choose one over the other I'd think I'd go with the Original wax over the extra grit(but that could change), as I like the stronger hold and I don't mind the shine. I've never tried the original in my hair, just beard. As with all honest amish products its all made from quality ingredients and they're a great company. Hope this was helpful. And beard on! *update* After using the extra grit for a few more days some other things I've noticed. -after applying to a clean beard out of the shower, it seems to almost dry and is not waxy like the original. - it give my beard a lot of body, more than the original I'd say. The more I use this wax the more I like it! I think that maybe I now like this more than the original. Definitely try it out and don't judge too quickly.

This stuff is great, you can feel the difference in your beard after a few uses. Definitely not a styling balm, but it rocks as an overnight leave in.
