Great Product
Great product. Very easy to assemble and works perfectly. When I need to replace the capillary strips, I think I'd just be buying a piece of suitable matting and cut my own strips to size, as the Hozelock ones look a tad pricey for what they are.

Saves carrying watering cans
Recommended by a friend. Use with grow bag for tomatos and cucumber plants. I like the way it can be filled. Either with a watering can or via a hose, this allows people the choice and also avoid carrying heavy cans. It holds alot of water so watering is not needed daily. Takes a bit of force to get the spikes into the grow bags. And a bit of force to remove them once the roots are entwined. Can be cleaned, stored and reused. New wicks are needed annually.

Great product and works well good.
On the basis these are supposed to provide watering for up to 14 days makes it as good a reason for me to purchase this. However, upon reading the instructions and there is also a table to indicate this, when plants are mature, as in tomato plants, up to 3 days of watering is actually possible. So realistically the packaging should state between 3 to 14 days of continuous watering without having to refill. The product can be hooked up to a water butt or an outside tap and on a timed basis the tray(s) can be topped up and thus provide a longer period of watering. That is how I intend to get around the 3 day watering issue. At least the plants will not be drowned by over watering as the grow bag is clear of the trays water reservoir. I also like the built in cane holder feature which is not initially apparent. As always, I will update with usage over time. September 2019 Having utilised these over the growing season for tomatoes, cucumbers and melon I can definitely recommend these for preventing under and over watering of the grow bags. With the addition of tomato feed straight into the reservoir for continued nutrients supply I had no blossom end rot on any plant, which is a first for me. Tomato crops have been excellent. First year of trying cucumbers and they too have been superb. Melon plants were troublesome, not due to watering, only one fruit per plant and an ants nest to contend with. Really do think these are the way forward for glasshouse grow bags and consistent watering. I also set up the Darlac water butt watering timer unit to top up the reservoirs whilst I was away. That is another great product which is still in good working order.

Excellent Tomato Watering System - even if you are going away for a week
I have owned the Hozelock Grow Bag Waterer for a couple of years now and I have been so delighted with the results, that I have since bought myself another one. Even though I work from home, I also need to travel with my job which means I can be away at a week at a time. This has always been a slight problem as I have to ask my neighbour if they would be kind enough to water my tomato plants which they have always agreed to do. This has since changed with the Grow Bag Waterer which effectively accommodates 3 tomato plants in one of the Levington Tomorite Giant Planter with Seaweed bags and keeps the plants moist in searing hot conditions. Fitting it together is very easy - you have the main tray and 4 plastic water spikes where the capillary matting is fed through. You then simply place the grow bag of your choice over the tray and spikes - push it down so that the spikes puncture the bag and then just get the hose, fit it to the hose lock and turn the tap on until the dial reads maximum. Its also easy to add tomato feed such as Tomorite by just lifting up the bag slightly and pouring the solution into the tray. After the growing season, I throw away the used capillary matting and have since purchased Nutley's 5 x 0.6m Aquamat Capillary Matting from Amazon and cut that to size to use the following year. I don't believe you can purchase refills from Hozelock, but I could be wrong. Either way, Aquamat works well and is cost effective. I would have no hesitation is giving this product a well deserved 5 star rating. Its convenient, my tomato crop has been great since using it, plus you can be confident that your tomato plants get sufficient water if you are away for a week.

Looking forward to trying this out !
Very quick postage , thanks . I have heard a lot of good things about this system and want to try it out in comparison to a normal grow bag set up . It is really well packaged and the instructions are very clear .

IT WORKS !
What a great idea, self watering system is great and saves going to the allotment every day, just be aware that in the height of summer it wi only last 3 days max unless you rig up a slow fill system.

Vastly better than drip-watering systems for ease of setting up & season-long maintenence
I deliberately delayed writing my review until the end of the season (Scotland) so that I could give an accurate reflection of quality. Having used timers/drop watering systems before, I am absolutely delighted with these growbag waterers in the greenhouse. Very easy to set up & come with the necessary matting etc for the first year. The instructions are genuinely idiot-proof! My tomatoes, aubergines & cucamelons have grown really well this year. At no point have they wilted (despite a very dry/warm summer), so I have had no trouble at all with blossom end rot or other irregular watering/feeding faults. The added bonuses are that I don't need to be a professional gymnast to weave around drip-feed tubing systems or have to replace batteries on timers etc. That said, I didn't go away for more than a weekend at a time during the growing season. Topping up water or feed/water levels is so easy, even for large numbers of troughs. I bought 5, which does the majority of growbags in an 8x15ft greenhouse, but will definitely be buying extra troughs for the remaining bags for next year. I have bought more capillary matting separately for next year, as I suspect the matting which comes with the troughs will only last one year, but it is relatively cheap in comparison, so once the initial outlay for the troughs is done, this system should last years. The only other piece of advice I have heard is to fill them to HALF-full each time, not completely full, as variations in the positioning of growbags can lead to oversaturation if they are completely filled with water/feed+water.
