More than what you think it is...
I initially thought this movie would be a feel good, comedy kind of movie but 'The Boy and The Beast' is so much more than that. Considering this is a movie directed, written and created by Mamoru Hosoda, I should've known I would get laughter, tears, and deep profound sense of life and meaning. The Boy and The Beast is wonderful to watch and I would recommend anyone to watch it also. Dealing with conflict, what it means to be alone, love and friendship, strength and weakness, perseverance... there are so many themes and so many lessons that are embedded in this film. I would watch it again in a heartbeat. Mamoru Hosoda - another great work!!

Get it up, Amazon !
Amazon streaming quality is one of the poorest really. Will not subscribe if it is not in a package with prime. I have to pause numerous times. How can you watch an animation when the quality fluctuates.Nevertheless, the latest of Hosoda is one of his best. The animation is fluid, the seiyuu (voice actor) are wonderful, and the story remains his usual family oriented story. Certain things might be confusing for someone who is not familiar with Japanese culture. I was watching the movie with toddlers and while they asked a lot of qs, they were having so much fun.

Looking for the UK version? Buy this one. The conflict of a boy and his master of a slob.
If like me, you're in the UK and wondering just where in the world is this film, well look no further and buy this one. For whatever reason it's not getting a UK release and this one is the Australian release but i can confirm 100% that it works on UK Blu Ray players and Playstation 4. What you're getting is the 5.1 Sound English Dub, Japanese Dub, and English subtitles, the same version released uncut the rest of the world.I am a massive fan of Mamoru Hosoda and think his work is better than Ghibli and this one doesn't disappoint. The tale of a runaway boy who gets lost in the world of the beasts, a world that runs parallel to our own. He becomes adopted and trained as an apprentice by a good for nothing beast but who also happens to excel at fighting. Can the boy grow to love and learn by this slob and does the curiosity of the human world come calling back?I certainly wouldn't say that it's better than Wolf Children but the animation is fantastic with a strong sense of passing time and character development. Excellent english voice over provided by Funimation. There is humour throughout with some conflict in between both on a personal level and to each other. It falls a little short in the ending with the heroic flair but i was happy with the overall result.Enjoy!

It has everything you could want in an Anime film
The Boy and the Beast is the latest film directed by Mamoru Hosoda and what a delight it is! It's full of energy, character, heart, comedy, action, drama, tension, emotion and has beautiful animation to top it all off. It's one of my new favourite Anime films and if you're a fan of Hosoda's previous works (or someone who wants try out Anime films not made by Studio Ghibli or Hayao Miyazaki), then I definitely recommend this! I can't wait for his next work!

Left with a soulful smile.
A fascinating and heart-warming story which will leave you with a smile before you even realise it.A troubled kid learning the ropes and becoming something of himself. It shows a personal journey as opposed to the fighting its associated with. It is this personal development and the mind to overcome which keeps things interesting.Anime lover or not, anyone can learn a thing or two from this movie and its a great watch regardless.

Loved it
I loved wolf children and when I found out that the same director also directed this film I couldn't wait to watch it and I was not disappointed everything I loved about wolf children was her topped with amazing visuals the only criticism I have is that it has a minor pacing problem when you watch it you will see what I mean but it could just be me I highly recommend watching it

Watch it!
Beautiful and poignant, it’s maybe not as good as a few of the more recent high profile anime movies that have been released but it still warrants a place in every anime collection. It’s a bit of a slow burner but you never feel bored by it, and it definitely has the tear factor that the Japanese market have perfected so well.

Fun Hosoda film
Mamoru Hosoda's fifth movie is often stated as being one of his weaker ones. After the critical success of "Girl Who Leapt Through Time", Summer Wars" and "Wolf Children", "The Boy and the Beast" is often regarded as the lesser of the four (his first was a "One Piece" movie). I disagree.I actually think that "Boy..." is right up there with Hosoda's best work as it leaves behind a lot of the heavy emotional pathos of"Wolf Children", and instead is just loads up on the fun of "Summer Wars". It's beautifully animated, is peopled (animalled?) with great side-characters, and rollicks along at a good pace. It's not the greatest anime movie of all time, but it is highly enjoyable and worth a look for Hosoda fans, or anyone who loves watching animated films.

Ennesimo Capolavoro

The Best of the Anime Genre has to Offer
Amazing movie, capturing everything sunny and bright anime has to offer in one single package.I have been an anime fan for all my life, growing up in the golden age of anime back in 90s, as a daughter of VHS rental shop clerk, I had easy access to lots of anime. For me, comic=anime=cartoons. Of course, I watched a LOT of anime. The Boy and the Beast, captures the element of any good shonen(boy) manga, of a young boy coming of age, lots of action an adventure into a different world as well as falling in love and maturing into an adult. It's fast paced, with adorable characters with no loose ends in the script.Personally I think this movie will become classic, and one of the best work from the director Hosoda Mamoru, with the most conclusive happy ending out of every movie he's made just yet. In a way this movie follows classic anime cliches, using elements such as mater and pupal relationship, boy without parents and the cute critter and a girl who always knows just what to say. But the way it is told is just beautiful, very fast and engaging with laughter at every corner, and beautiful filmography. I would dare say this piece is on the par with other family feature masterpieces like Totoro, or pixar movies. This will be definitely one of the anime I'll recommend to anybody who is starting out in this genre, as well as anyone who is willing to watch a good show and isn't afraid of the cartoon packaging. The duel-audio and language options as well as the DVD,Blu-Ray and the Digital copy also makes this bundle worth it.

Strano, bello e non banale
Una bella storia di padri e figli, non scontata e toccante da vedere con figli undicenni che si apprestano a diventare degli estranei (se sei un adulto), o con un papà che ti sembra troppo occupato ( se hai undici anni).
